In fact the Catholic Church is not just against abortion, it is pro-life in the widest sense. This is often called a "Consistent Ethic of Life."

This pro-life stance stresses the highest regard for dignity of human life including that of:
- All people in objecting to unjust war and nuclear arms.
- The unborn in objecting to to abortion, in fitro fertilization, frozen embryos, embryonic stem cell research, and cloning
- The elderly, sick and dying in objecting to assisted suicide and euthanazia
- Prisoners in objecting to the death penalty
- The poor and minorities in supporting social justice issues.

With love in Christ.

Never.

In 1974 the Declaration on Procured Abortion (by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) stated: "Respect for human life is called for from the time that the process of generation begins. From the time that the ovum is fertilized, a life is begun which is neither that of the father nor of the mother; it is rather the life of a new human being with its own growth. It would never be made human if it were not human already. .." This declaration was ratified by Pope Paul Vl, who confirmed it and ordered it to be promulgated. It will be upheld by all Popes to come.

When the Church uses the phrase "procured abortion', it means, in nontechnical terms, deliberately terminating a pregnancy at any stage before the child in the womb can live outside the womb.

of course not. he's the pope. catholics are supposed to be against abortion. it's murder. BUT i am catholic/christian and i do support abortion in some cases. i think that abortion is good when say a 12 year old got raped and is pregnant. she shouldn't have to have the child. also there are times when abortion is needed for safety reasons. but i do not support abortion when someone wants to have one just because they were irresponsible and didn't use protection.
