From a religious point of view, the chicken.
However, from an evolution point of view, the egg.
This is because as animals evolved, they'd lay eggs. As they evolved over thousands of years, both the eggs and animals would become more like the chickens we know today (Gallus domesticus), however, animals didn't change in their life time, it would be through the change of genes as the animal formed in the egg.
So, to answer your question, the egg came first, before the chicken we know today.

It has been reported in the newspaper (yes they are that bored to put it in the paper) that the egg came first. It is all to do with evolution. How the chicken evolved whilst in the egg, therefore the egg came first.

A chicken grew inside an egg laid by something chicken-like. Evolution is a very gradual process, how you define when a chicken actually became a chicken rather than something chicken-like is a much harder question.

And God said let there be funnly little creatures that have wings but cant fly,God has a sense of humour.Then God made man and thought I bet he would like eggs for breakfast so he got the chickens to lay them.Then God realised there were too many chickens so God made KFC,the rest is history!
