The Grim Reaper is another term for The Angel of Death. In the Bible, during the last plague on Egypt, the Angel of Death swept through and took all the souls of the first born that weren't marked as Jews. This is a concept of Catholicism/Christianity.

The Grim Reaper isn't a religious icon, it's more like a metaphor for death or the end.

Ostera is the image of the grim reaper.I guess christian propaganda turned her into the angel of death ,the same way they made the image of the god Pan satan .so the grim reaper sounds like a christian creation...

Both the bible, the book of mormon, and others mentions an angel of death. I think the image and meaning of the angel of death has evolved and is based on alot of things just like the horned devil with a tail, red scaly skin and a pitchfork is all based on imagry developed through the ages.
