I would go to your vet and have him examine her and do x-rays. Labs and similar breeds are prone to hip displaysia and other hip problems. It could be something simple enough to be treated with joint and pain medicine or be as serious enough that it requires surgery. But, make your appointment as soon as possible, as it could be something else.

You know when you fall asleep and lay on your arm or hand and you wake up and you can't feel it? That's probably what happened to your dog. Her leg is asleep. It will probably be fine when you get home today. Just let her exercise it. If it is not better in the next day or so, take her to the vet for a checkup.

My dog has this problem sometimes. Because you noticed that she had not physically injured itself, there was a slip of something when she slept. Especially if your dog is smaller, there can be knee problems. It may be that she has a trick knee, and you need to GENTLY rub it to see if the kneecap will pop back in place. Of course she will yelp for a second. If she can't do it herself, take her to the vet. Only he can know for sure.

This sounds like a good question for a veterinarian, which I am not. It could be that she laid on it wrong in her crate, it could be that she has a joint injury, or it could be that she has a hip problem or a luxating patella (kneecap). There are a lot of possibilities for something like this, and it's probably just best if you take her to be checked over.

Don't you wish they could just tell us what hurts? Good luck to you!

Time for a vet visit. Even if we could guess what might be causing it, your vet would still have to verify the guesses and develop a treatment plan. I would have this looked at ASAP so whatever caused it doesn't get worse.

Is she in pain? Does she yelp when you move or examine the leg?

My two year lab does that and it turned out her back and hips were riddled with arthritis. You need to take her to the vet for x-rays and diagnosis. Labs are very prone to hip dysplasia , and she could benefit from early treatment. She also has no swelling or obvious injury when it acts up. Good luck, with her.

has she recently been spayed? sometimes there is sorness in certain spots, if not, labs tend to have hip displasia that can add discomfort either to one leg or both, or possibly arthritis, even at a young age it is common in labs. also it may be as simple as something in her paw...check between her pads and nails. i cant tell without looking at her, i recommend to have your local vet check her out

I think that her back leg may have went to sleep, kinda like our body parts going to sleep.....I have a 2 year old golden retriever, and he did the same thing one day when I came home from lunch....

It's possible your dog might have picked up a rose thorn or other type of briar in her foot. Carefully feel between each toe. If there is something there she will pull her foot away when you touch the spot. Often you'll feel the briar, if that's what it is.

calm down...
i have 3 dogs. sometimes mine do that, every once in a while. im not sure why, but they quit after a few hours or so. maybe its like when we get a cramp or something. if she slept in a crate, she couldnt have done anything too seriously to hurt herself.
