Depends on where the person is relative to you. Consider all options. Can you take a train? If so go to www.amtrak.com and check out "hot deals" for discounted rates. If you need to fly, try all the airline sites. Try different days and times of day. Try to arrange for at least 14 day advance purchase and a Saturday night stay. (Traditional ways to get better fares.) Try to travel mid day, mid week. Overnight might work too. Keep checking and you might hit upon a good deal.
