Frankly, I think 90% of all cops are azzholes. I believe the get this way because of the people they come into contact with on a daily basis and from hanging around other cops. They all act like they've got a chip on their shoulder.
As far as having a tough job, I'd agree with that, but I also think, "hey, you knew the job was dangerous when you took it" so don't come whining to me about it.
One more thing, just 'cause you wear a badge doesn't mean I have to show you anymore respect than you show me. Treat most people decent and they'll cooperate. If they don't, then there's always time for you to be an azzhole.....
JAMES O...hey, you wanna call me out, I'm going to respond. I don't know where you're from, but in Southern Cali, all the cops think they're badazz. Look, I have 15 years in the military, they want 'tude, I'll give 'em 'tude. I'll always start off respectful and I NEVER interfere, but the minute I get BS from them you better believe I give as good as I get, and without being vulgar or using foul language.
My point is this. Just because a guy wears a badge, he gets no more courtesy or respect than anyone else does. They have to earn it just like the rest of us.

When Most People Meet A Cop It's Under The Worst Circumstances, A Robbery, Aerson Murder Etc. Or When They Have Done Something Wrong Such As Speeding "Just A Little" Or Having "Only 2 Beers All Day Long" . Most Officers Have A Pretty Astounding Level Of Crap That They Put Up With And Most Never Let It Show. I Have Been In Law Enforcement For 7 Years And Have Several Hobbies To Help Relieve Stress. I Have Never Assaulted Anyone, Shot Anyone, Or Tried To Demean Someone For Going To Jail. I Work In A Jail And Have Met Several Ex Inmates On the Street, generally they Come Up And Say Hi And Ask About the Job Because In Most cases Thats All They Know About Me.
But I Believe That If You Treat An "Inmate" Like A Human And Offer Respect You will Get Respect Back Most Times. Some People Don't Understand Respect And There For I Just Smile When They Call Me Names And Threaten Me. It Bothers them That I Don't Seem To Mind, And I Find A Healthier Release For Myself. Ususally After A Day Or So They Calm Down And Apologize.
So If All Cops Are Mean, All People Who Make Generalizations About Groups Of People Are Uneducated And Should Have To Spend Time With Those Groups To Get A Little Understanding.
By The Way Hot Slaw Got It On The Nose,
Everyone Hates Cops Until they need One

Don't credit me with this mongrel prose; it has many parents; at least 420,000 of them: Policemen.
A policeman is a composite of what all men are, a mingling of saint and sinner, dust and deity.
Culled statistics wave the fan over the stinkers, under-score instances of dishonesty and brutality because they are "news." What that really means is that they are exceptional, unusual, not common-place.
Buried under the froth is the fact: Less than one-half of one per cent of the policemen misfit that uniform. That's a better average than you'd find among clergymen.
What is a policeman made of? He, of all men, is at once, the most needed and the most unwanted.
He's a strangely nameless creature who is "sir" to his face and "fuzz" behind his back.
He must be such a diplomat that he can settle differences between individuals so that each will think he won.
But............
If the policeman is neat, he's conceited; if he's careless, he's a bum.
If he's pleasant, he's a flirt; if he's not, he's a grouch. He must make in an instant decisions which would require months for a lawyer.
But............
If he hurries, he's careless; if he's deliberate, he's lazy.
He must be first to an accident and infallible with a diagnosis.
He must be able to start breathing, stop bleeding, tie splints, and dry tears.
The police officer must know every gun, draw on the run and hit where it doesn't hurt.
He must be able to whip two men twice his size and half his age without damaging his uniform and without being "brutal."
If you hit him, he's a coward; if he hits you, he's a bully.
The policeman must, from a single hair, be able to describe the crime, the weapon and the criminal - and tell you where the criminal is hiding.
But...
If he catches the criminal he is lucky; if he doesn't, he's a dunce.
The policeman must chase bum leads to a dead end, stake-out 10 nights to tag one witness who saw it happen but refuses to remember.
The policeman must be a minister, a social worker, a diplomat, a tough guy and a gentleman.
And of course he will have to be a genius.....For he'll have to feed a family on a policeman's salary.

Then maybe the dumb pig just needs to get another job!
I know I sound like such a jerk with no respect for the law, but it's not that. I have been programmed from years of expirence to HATE the police.
Some of you are saying" well dont break the law, and you won't deal with the cops" which is such BS.
Just being young ,in the wrong type of car, white in the wrong neighborhood, should'nt be enough to harass anyone.
You wonder why majority of the youth in any inner city has no respect for any officer. Because we all stand side by side ,while your firing squads pick and choose who has a bad night tonight!
and this is just a middle class whiteboy , in a sea of rednecks...I cant imagine what the lower class minority feels...

Personally I have not seen but one *sshole cop in my 41 years. He was a state trooper and used to hassle us guys and flirt it up with the girls(he was married).
I got a DUI 17 years ago and was p!sseed at the way the cop treated me(no violence towards me) but made me feel like a heel,a common criminal. My older brother explained it to me this way. They make it where you don't wanna go back to jail.Plain and simple.
But I will always resent those two "pigs" the rest of my life.

Usually to establish control. To throw you off guard. I have lived in several cities and the current city (small) has the meanest cops I've ever dealt with. They seem to be ok when they are in the restaurant where I work and I am waiting on them but when they are on duty they are mean. I think it may be their training.

I don't think all of them are mean..some are really nice..I dated one for a while who hated to write tickets to anyone for anything LOL...I think some are mean because the job is a high pressure one in part, and some are mean because that's just who they are..they're unhappy with their own lives, so they take it out on people hiding behind a badge and gun. I try to take each officer as an individual. I've had to deal with some who have helped me in alot of ways.

If you had to spend all day dealing with the lowlifes of the earth you might be a little testy too. If your nice and respectful to the officer he will be nice to you.
Chairman_of_the_bored_04 is an example of someone that may have a problem dealing with the officers. He has the wrong attitude.
