No telvison? well are you bored with the child or just bored when your alone? You could get books and read alot or use the computer as a window outlet for bordeom when the child is asleep. Look for classes that the child may be ablke to do like dance baby tumbling gymboree and see if the parents would allow you to do that or ask again about the libary and the reading for infants and tots that they have availbel explain that the child would be entertained by a story and would help stimulate the childs mind. If nothing else tell them how you are felling and explain that htis is not your fiorst nanny posotion and you would like to take the child places even the park for fun.

try reading to the child. Incorporate some games into the mix. Pull out flash cards, anything to take your mind off of not being able to go anywhere. There is so much that you can do with a 21 month old baby that it is not funny. Try looking on the Internet for games or crafts that you and the child to do that is not to messy and fun.

tell them since Ur caring for the child a big part of the day that at times u get bored and things get really routine that u want to make a weekly planner of what u want to do with their child that would be fun for the both of u. then write up a weekly day planner and show it to them . after they approve u hopefully get more energized to go to work.
day 1- gymnastics day - fun for u fun for the baby.
day 2- water play day - u don't have to go swimming just put a bathing suit on baby and grab some pails and bath toys.
day 3- finger painting
day 4- get some stickers and construction paper and make a collage of all the pretty things baby likes.cut pics.out of old magazines.
day 5- ABC day its time to teach baby ABC's find things that start with each letter.then draw them like blues clues.
u can always have Ur own projects as well, u can take a sewing box to work and at nap time ask mom aka Ur boss for some old baby clothes so u can decorate them w/sequins,buttons (over the stains) ,ribbon use Ur imagination. even take some of Ur old things and brighten them up. HAVE FUN!!!

The parents will love you if you do this:
Go online and pull the preschool standards for your state. Then start working on those skills with the child to get him/her ready for preschool. Online you can find for lesson plans for toddlers. You could also call a daycare center and see if you can get a copy of the yearly assement sheet that they use for each age group. That will give you even more ideas on what the child should be learning at that age.
You can do art projects together. You can teach the child songs and dances. You can teach them how to do somersaults, barrel rolls, and animal walks. You can work on names of body parts and names of things around the house. You can do flashcards on colors and shapes and numbers and letters etc...

Ask the parents to explain to you what there concerns are regarding playing with other children. Let them know how important it is to his development that he spend time observing other children. It is difficult for you to be in this position because you want what is best for the child and yet the parents still want control. I used to be a nanny and I worked with preschoolers for 16 years. I only quit because of the parents!

Oh that does sound boring... I would hate to just be "sitting home" every single day.
One thing you could do is go to the library when you're NOT working, and check out some books with activity and art project suggestions for little kids. Look for something like "Rainy day activities" since you have to stay in the house even when its not raining! I dunno though... it sounds like a nightmare to me!!!

What are they...a couple of hermits who don't let their baby see the light of day???
You could start by telling them that it's good for the baby to get out and get some fresh air and a change of scenery, so you'd like to take her to the park. If they mention you have to drive there, tell them that your driving record is impeccable and you're licensed and bonded through your nanny agency (assuming you are). If they hem-haw about it, remind them that you gave them references when they hired you, and you can give them more if they wish.

wow, i would express your concerns to the family.
i can understand the TV thing...that's pretty standard with kids, esp that age....studies have shown a correlation between TV and babies likliehood of ADD. regular TV is too fast for them to process, they should watch baby shows and videos, like baby einstein, with slower moving pictures, etc.
anyway, got sidetracked.
i would discuss with them what they feel your pupose is. explain to them that you are accustomed to outings, play dates, trips to the park, etc.
this will put the ball into their court to outline their expectations and their approved activities for their little one. if they aren't giving you the feedback you desire, then be blunt. tell them that you are feeling underutilized and a bit bored and would like to take the baby on outings, play dates, etc.
see how they react to that.
be professional and courteous. i hope it works out!
take care!
