I don't.
If you were saying "Republicans" and "Democrats" I would agree with the similarity argument, because there is very little difference left between those two, and the biggest similarity is that they work to keep other options (Libertarians et al) suppressed via restrictive ballot access laws.
But Atheists and Christians aren't similar and can't become similar over time, other than thinking their view is the right view, which is a common trait for all humans whether it's about religion, politics, what computer operating system is best, etc. Atheists deny a spiritual presence, Christians espouse one variant of spiritual presence -- there's really no way to reconcile those stances, and thus conflict is virtually guaranteed.

Now, that is a good question! Hoping you don't remove it. ;-)
I would say we are quite similar in the regards we want to be "in the right crowd". christians want to prove atheists wrong and atheists want to prove christians wrong. I have given up on doing that kinda thing and just live-let-live. :-) I feel a lot better and more at peace. I am only "right" to myself......and I am at peace with the fact that I am "wrong" to everyone else. ;-)
I am a spiritual atheist, btw.

Oh, absolutely, are you kidding?
As a hard-line atheist I recognize that I have a lot more in common with a fundamentalist Christian than with some luke-warmer who only goes to midnight mass on Christmas.
The polar ends of any spectrum like this are always shockingly alike.

I am Christian and have had some nice responses from Atheist and Christian alike, and visa versa. More than the fact of beliefs, I think its maturity on both parts in the answerer.

That makes some sense. The sort of people that think an internet forum is a sensible place to debate theology are just the sorts of people that have a heavy emotional investment in actively defending their worldview, and in seeking out confrontation where they can do just that.

everyone thinks that they are right. If you don't believe the same as they do then you are wrong. If you are wrong you could be called a wide variety of derogatory terms. I guess the point is: this forum is more for argument than answers

Yes. In the way that Atheists fight for their beliefs the same was Christians fight for theirs.
On both sides we go by faith.
Atheists has faith there is no God.
Christian has faith there is a God.
Both are faiths.
