if you interpret the meaning of that sentence that its not what we do or don't do but out hearts that God looks at. If you agree then why do you feel you have to be religious and do all the not not not's and the shoulda coulda woulda's, do you know what that means its not by works we are saved but by grace? For example if you have a b/f or g/f and yal been together awhile and you have those good sexual feelings that God gave you, if its agreed that yal want to have sex (use protection!) and in your heart you love God, love others as you would yourself right? Well God looks at the heart and not by works (do or don't do) how can you say that its sin when God tells us He looks at our hearts. Also there is nothing wrong with sex, lust (you are attracted to a girl/guy) if you're married and you have intentions to get into her pants then ya that is wrong because you are hurting your wife. Do or dont do God looks at our hearts, religion only condemns and Jesus' death freed us from that.

If you loved God you would keep those "laws that hurt others" but love is our new motivation rather than the "have to" or "job" that we couldn't do in the first place.

I'm just wondering where in the bible you got this? We may be saved by grace and not works, but in James it says faith without works is dead. This might seem like a contradiction, but it is talking about two different kinds of works - in James spiritual works is meant, that it isn't enough only to believe in God but there needs to be a change in our life because of the work of God. That grace is important and not works means it doesn't matter if you give a lot of money to charity, do good deeds, visit sick people, etc. That won't save you if you don't have grace - the work of the holy spirit in your life.

However - if we do have the guiding of the holy spirit (which is God's spirit in us) then we would do what God would want us to do, right? And so then we don't need to worry if this religion is right, or that one, or if it's ok to do this, or that - because we'll know. The guiding should come from inside us and not from other people, because people can be wrong. If we don't have the holy spirit, that's another matter. But it says "seek and ye shall find"...

I hope I explained this well enough so you could understand - I'm not so good at explaining such things.

Look deeper into your Bible my dear. Although there is no deed of our hands that will get us into Heaven, God still calls us to set an example to live as purely as possible because that is what happens when you have TRULY accepted God and Christ's gift of love through grace. You work your hardest to love others, love yourself, but most of all to love God. You are right that no deed can save you, but it very well could condemn you if you are not careful.

What the bible means by save by grace and not by works are:
first of all "all have sin and come short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23 and "The wages of sin in dead" Rom 6:23 Also "...in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us" Rom 5:8. Christ met us as sinners and his dead is not as a result of our works as long as we are sinners.
In Rom 10:9,10 says if we confess with our mouth and belief in our heart that God raise Christ from dead we will be save. It is not the issue of works but grace through faith.
After you are save the question Paul ask in Rom 6:1 That says shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? the answer as he said is NO.We become dead to sin.
Finally on judgment day Christians are judge by their works through fire. This will determine the type of crown you get. so at the initial point of being save works does not count but after you are save your faith through works will definitely count

Problem is If we leave the definition of "love" up for graps or personal interpretation you run across the problem of:
I love that 4 year old being 40 now makes no difference
I love _______________ so I'm okay as long as I love what I do.

We need to follow God's definition of love. Hate the sin love the sinner.

its like predestination in a way.

you're already going to heaven because you're good. and all your works reflect it because that's just who you are.

i think its christians getting to caught up in their own religion.
trying to explain that you have to accept jesus, that good works aren't enough. but i find it hard to imagine that such a "loving" god would cast a pagan who was a model person into the lake of fire while taking a true believer who cheated, lied, and hurt people into paradise simply because he regretted what he did at the end up his life and took jesus into his heart.

its one of those things that bothers be in christianity, and was one of the first troubling things i discovered when i looked critically at the faith. which is why i'm an atheist.
accepting jesus does NOT equal a good person, just as satanist (pagan, atheist, ect) does NOT equal a bad person.

Yes, I believe a God of grace and love will "save" every person, or bring them into wholeness and peace. I don't feel "stuck" in my religion. My religion is the road I have chosen to walk on, to live out my faith. True, religion can be oppressive and full of shalt and shalt nots, but it doesn't have to be. Our journey is one of seeking God, making meaning. Religion can help or hinder that...

You have spoken correctly. We are saved by God's grace not by our works (otherwise we would boast).

The whole point of Christianity is love. Love God, love people.

We have been saved to do good works (Ephesians 2:8-9)

it is very confusing....... I wish I knew that answer........ we are saved by grace........ Jesus sacrifice is a gift from God....... we are not saved by works......... but if we sin then its a big deal and everything. And somehow you are supposed to figure all this out.
