Parrots do not talk in the real meaning of the word, they simply mimic or copy speech or every day sounds. When I was at school my biology teacher used to have a minah bird that as well as repeating words often said in class would do a very good impression of an ambulance siren as there was a main road just outside the classroom window.

The best talkers in the parrot family are the African Gray,The Double Yellow headed Amazon, the Yellownaped Amazon and the Blue Fronted Amazon.Other parrots have the ability to talk as well;I have an Orange -Winged Amazon who can say "Hello" and imitate other sounds when she chooses to;she used to dig a hole in her seed cup and cover her ears during her speech lessons,so I got the message that she really didn't care to learn to talk in "people." My Indian Ring-necked parakeet can whistle and talk, but his pronunciation isn't the best.
And to correct one of your other ill-informed answerers:BIRDS DO TALK!!Studies have been done on African Grays to see if it's mimicking or talking that they do.It's talking because the bird knows what it's saying;birds can differentiate size, shape, color.By randomly handing the birds varying shapes of different sizes and colors, the bird were able to identify, with 100% accuracy, each shape,by its size and color. The birds even let the scientists know that the tasks that they were given were "boring."This study done by U.C. Berkeley is over two years old.

Parrots don't really talk, they mimic sounds. They don't understand what they are "saying" but just do so to impress relatives and friends. ;) Some even pick up cursing words!!!

No, John. Amazons and Greys are noted for their talking ability, but the smaller birds, such as Quakers, lovebirds do not talk. Do you have a specific bird in mind? Perhaps i can tell u more.

Sadly not....though you could try. I believe that animals are very responsive to real human warmth, love and attention.

But if you want a definite talker, you would need to take specialist advice. Are you going to teach it some rude words???

Good luck!!
