Didn't you ever see the Seinfeld episode about "good naked" and "bad naked"? Good naked is fairly obvious - standing, sitting, and other natural positions. Bad naked was when Jerry's girlfriend was fixing her bike naked in the apartment. She was bent over and straining trying to loosen a nut on the tire. Ew.
Getting undressed (unless you're trying to be seductive) is bad naked, and doctors don't want to see that - no one does.

Unless you are a stripper the act of undressing in front of a stranger can be unpleasant. It is just courteous for the doctor to leave the room for you to do the deed.

Policy and Procedure my dear, it's etiquette and ethical. Plus the don't see everything you are partially covered. Think about it a doctor is standing there while your are taking off your shirt, pants, bra, and underwear. He probably has other things to do while you go through all that. I really don't need my doctor in the room while I undress, it wouldn't feel professional to me, I just hate once I get them off he takes forever to get to me.

gives them enough time to talk about your body hang-ups and laugh about it. hehe.. just kidding
well, the people above are right -- it's out of courtesy. and it's a lot easier and faster if the appointment starts with you undressed (or robed) already -- no need to wait for you to take everything off.
also, while they're out of the room -- they're checking your medical records, so the are prepared to talk to you about anything health-related.

Honey if your doctor is having you get completely neked for him, then you need to find a new doctor.... there is absolutely NO reason for you to be naked for any doctor other than the gynocologist.

addition info: if you are a female and a male doctor is attending to you, there's a need to have a female nurse beside the 2 of you even though she may just stand n do nothing. just in case of false molestion.

They use the time it takes you to undress, to go to the next patient's room and tell them to remove THIER clothes. Then they come back to see you

Because they have other things to do and it gives them a break to go off and do something else while your undressing.

It just makes it more confortable. Disrobing in front of others is a strange feeling.
