My husband and I are walking in the Out of the Darkness walk in Chicago in August and we have had SUCH a hard time getting donations. Is it where we live? Is this just such a hard subject to talk about? Do any of you feel that it is morally wrong to donate to this cause? If you could donate would you?

This walk is for the prevention of suicide and depression. Would you feel differently if it were just for depression and not suicide?

I think it has something to do with the name of the organization. When I read the name at first I thought it was a group that promoted suicide. If you put the word PREVENTION in there it might help.

Also, suicide is a very touchy subject with people. It's kind of like raising funds for an abortion clinic. Your fundamentalist Christians freak out about your immortal soul and such.

As I am poor and recovering from a suicide attempt I could not donate money to your cause, however since I am deeply affected by depression I would be willing to walk.

in think you guys are doing something that change a life. people probably dont have enough time to put donations in the streets. i think i would donate some money to help you but i live in nj. Suggestions are to make a garage sale and tell the customers that it is for the American Suicide Foundation. There are other ways to make people donate.
Hope that all goes well! Good luck and may God bless*

Many people feel that suicide is a selfish act and for people that only think of themselves.

some people view it as an unforgivable sin... which strikes me as odd because if you believe in God then you know that he is an all forgiving God.
