Yes and no. He does have a desire to be worshipped, but what must be examined is the WHY this would be selfish. When you examine this, the statement falls away. It would be selfish for man to want this, and arrogant. Why? Because no man is greater than another, and is just a human being. We intrinsically know this. God is transcendent, and is perfect, and is infinitely greater than mankind. Thus, these qualities cannot be ascribed to Him. This is like saying, "Since God is perfect, and He wants to be worshipped, this is bad..." this falls apart upon further examination.

Pull a string on a doll and it says, "I love you".
Pull it again and it says, "I love you".
Pull it again and it says, "I love you".
About 30 seconds of this and you're over it.

That's why we have free will.

I don't know if you're a parent or not but there is nothing better on earth than to have a child run up to you, give you a big hug and say, "I love you".

THAT's what He wants - a loving relationship with us.
He already loves us. He wants us to love Him back.
I can't imagine that being selfish.

You're right it is. We cannot assign our corrupt desires to a holy God. For one thing, as the creator He is worthy of praise and honor, that's something we cannot fully comprehend. In our corrupt minds we end up bringing God down to our level instead of seeking to be raised to a higher level and closer to Him.

Technically it is. It is also anthropomorphization to say that God exists because "nature is beautiful" or "complex".

But aren't we "created in God's image" anyway according to the Christians?

I would have less trouble believing in an anthropomorphized god than one that we simply know as "infinite" or "incomprehensible". At least with man-gods you can describe them with positive attributes.

if you will worship God that will be for your own good.

God does not need anything because He owns evertything.
