How did you save up the money to get married? I want to get married so bad, but I don't have the cash to do it. I don't want to elope, I just want to know the techniques that everyone else used to save up some money for a wedding...I really don't want to hear how your parents paid for it, that'll make me feel worse!

I want to get married and have a wedding. I don't believe in divorce, so this is a once in a lifetime thing for me and I want it to be a nice wedding.

Well my finace and I didn't know if my parents would help us at all so we went into this ready to pay for everything. I simply asked mom if we could use her house, when she agreed, we use the back porch, bought White Sandles for my shoes, had my brides maid's carry 2 white roses with one red rose and 2 cala lilly's I carried a dozen roses cut and tapped with florist tape. Went to sam's club for the flowers. His grandmother made both cakes. We got our invataions and printed th em our selfs go to hobby lobby, walmart, or Michaels Craft Store for them. We had a friendof my parents who's a priest marry us. All and all we spent maybe 700$

Weddings techincally don't cost very much. Get two additional people (witnesses) and hire an authorized officiant. In 10 minutes, you are married. You can even have a friend become 'ordained' to perform the wedding.
It's everything else that's expensive. If you can't afford it, then don't go into debt over it. If you want a fancy wedding, figure out ways to cut costs but still honour your guests. Invite less people. Have less flowers. Go with cheaper tablecloths. Don't go crazy on 'gifts'. Buy a simple dress. Have the wedding in someone's backyard.

I worked and put so much in a savings account special for the wedding. It is according to how big and fancy you want the wedding and reception. It took me 6 months to save enough money for my wedding and I have pictures on my profile of my wedding, if you would like to look. I also have a friend that designs and decorates for fancy weddings that gave me some pointers. If you would like you can e-mail me and I will tell you what I know.
Good Luck, and Congrats!

i went to the Justice of the peace to get married. but what my sis did was buy some things here and there. she bought a normal white dress at the white house black market and not a wedding dress. which saved a lot of money. if you do a lot of the things yourself it saves up money really quickly. mom cooked the food for the reception after the wedding. i think will everything it only cost my sister around 1000 maybe more for everything.

This was my second wedding. I got things a little at a time. My sister and niece and I went shopping for dresses and found some marked down at store in the mall. Mine- $30.00, theirs about $12.00 each because they also opened a charge account to get an additional discount. They needed to be altered but I have a sister that's good at sewing. (Free) I also have another sister who is a wonderful cook (free) and another who helped do the decorating and our hair (free), and I had a friend do the DJing ($30.00) and my boss actually did my flowers ($80.00)and my sister-in-law did my cake.($50.00) A couple of other friends had some big speakers they loaned us and a Karaoke friend sang our first dance song.(tried to pay him $30.00 but he gave it back) I guess what I'm saying is that I took advantage of talents of people around me and my husband and I had a wonderful wedding (at our house which didn't cost us a dime either!) My biggest expense was the food which I got a little at a time and cooked myself and froze, and my sisters that cooked and served volunteered their time and some food, plus a co-worker and her friend contributed some wonderful Asian appetizers.(free) Oh, and one last thing. One of my sisters brought a friend who owns a bar and he got a discount on several bottles of wine when we started to run low. (his expense) I guess it helps to have connections. Oh, yeah, I got the ice free too. I work at the hospital in the kitchen and there is an icemaker. Wow, more connections than I thought. So, think of what your family members and friends are good at and see if they will help you. Good luck and have a wonderful wedding!!

You can always have a simple ceremony at the courthouse with your parents and his, maybe your best friends. Then, have a Saturday bbq/wedding reception. Do a potluck.
The important thing is that you get married.

You need to find a wedding planning book and make yourself a wedding budget.
If you don't have a personal budget yet, you should do that first so you can decide how much you can afford to save each month.

I moved in with my grandparents for a few months. I was saving almost 2g/month in living expenses and used that money to help start paying. I also used a few grand on my credit cards. This is one thing that's worth taking on the debt, hopefully you'll get most of it back in cards!

You can save a lot of money by doing things yourself...invitations, Save the Dates, decorations, favors, etc. You can buy inexpensive wedding-related items on www.ebay.com or www.overstock.com.
Check out www.theknot.com for a lot of good tips by other thrifty brides.

It doesn't cost much to get married. It costs a lot to have a wedding. Do you want to be married or do you just want to have a big party?
