My question, should you choose to answer, is a challenge. I want to know how such a great magnitude of very different religions can all claim that the same person started each one.

Jesus taught truth and man has chosen the things he likes and if the church he goes to does not teach it as he wants to believe, he starts another church teaching what he wants to believe, whether it is according to the bible or not. Anyone can claim that Jesus is the one that established it but in truth, HE started only one and man has picked and chosen the things he likes or dislikes about the church they choose to attend and call it THE ONE. If you really want the one that Jesus would go to today if He were on this Earth, study the bible and go to the church that follows what He taught. Check out the following site.

First, Jesus did not start the religions. The apostles began the origins of Christianity shortly after the Death and Resurection of Christ. Second, Christianity became for instutionalized at the Nicean Coucil and that was about 300ish AD. The next split was during the 1000 with the church of the West and East or Roman Catholic and Orthodox Catholic Churches. This was over the married priesthood to name one of the problems that caused the split. Next came when Martin Luther and others broke from the church during its time of coruption. This is how all of the other religions claim that Jesus started all of these relgions. For the record, in the begining of Christianity everyone was CATHOLIC. They may be different and you may question stuff about the Catholic Church but we were oldest Christianity religion. Are all the other religions wrong, maybe not, but in some ways TOTALLY.

That is not a hard question but a long one but I will make it short. Everyone claims that God or Jesus Christ started there religion because that is what they believe in their heart. A good question would be "How many religions did Jesus Christ start?" The answer to that question would be "0." You know why? Because Jesus did not come to establish a religion. Christianity should only consist of Christians but it doesn't. The literal definition for the word "Christian" is "Christ-like." How do you become a Christian? Act like Jesus did. Jesus is in Heaven, do you know you're going? Jesus is merciful, peaceful, etc., are you? (When I use the word "you" it is all-inclusive meaning everybody, not just you friend, I ain't pickin' on ya! =)) Read the Book of Acts where it states that the Apostles were first called Christians in Antioch because they acted like Christ there, performed miracles, showed compassion, worked, etc. So the answer to your question is simply that people may say that God or Christ started their religion when, in fact, God did not even start Christianity. The only institution He started while here on Earth is the local church.

Jesus called upon Peter to establish a church. Other than that, well... the church just started splitting up because of moral and political differences.

To the one above (mojomama420), okay, I'll tell you you're wrong, *sigh*. Peter is said to be the one who started the church when Jesus acended into heaven. Even when the bible was being written, there were already Churches (otherwise, who would Paul, Peter and John be writing letters to?) And I'm sure John didn't live a hundred years right after.

I think you are misinformed. No other religion that I know of claims to have been started by Jesus, save Christianity.

Islam has Mohhomed
Buhddism had Siddartha
Hinduism had Brahma (not a man, mind you but Hinduism is considerably older than Christinaity)
Egypt had Horus
Scientology has L Ron Hubbard.....

No, that is impossible. Since religion and spirituality was existant long before Jesus was even concieved. Really think about it and start watching the History, discovery and A&E channels, you might actaully learn something about the Bible and the real history of what happened before Jesus was even born and how he really ended up on the cross.

well, first of all let me make clear that the reason why there are so many religions or sects is because people make them. they seperated because of an idea that they did not like from the major religions.
the only religions that i know that say that jesus founded them is catholic and christian, the rest admit that another person started it but they follow many of jesus examples and or believes

If he did, he was certainly busy in his short time on Earth, wasn't he. As far as I know, Jesus started NO religions! He preached that the Jews needed to get back to their roots and religion. Christianity was formed long after his death.

Many people get religion confused with faith. Look it up in your dictionary. Example: washing your face or brushing your teeth everyday is a religious practice.

As many have answered, Jesus didn't establish religions. He wanted us to have faith in Him and to be Christ like.

Other beliefs where formed by people, not Jesus.

the challenge is you would be no longer able to truly take Muhammed, Jesus, Abraham and Moses out of any of those faiths. they are mandatory to each and each. i'm no longer thoroughly particular, regardless of if it variety of feels like Islam and Judaism teach that one needs to obey a heap of regulations with a view to get into heaven. yet Christianity teaches that each and all and sundry one needs to do is love the lord god and have confidence in His Son Jesus. In incredibly plenty each incorrect way, whether, they are somewhat comparable.
