PERSIMMONS

(Diosporyus species) Both Asian and American persimmons are very beautiful trees that produce delicious, sweet orange fruit. All the trees we offer are grafted and will have superior quality fruit on an early bearing tree.

They are small, grape-like fruits about 2 inches long. They grow on mid-sized trees here in the Eastern US. They don't taste that great to me, kind of bland and a little bitter.

Everything you wanted to know about persimmons but were afraid to ask. They are pretty tart fruits, and generally aren't eaten plain but made into jams, jellies, tarts, puddings, etc.

I think they ripen in fall. They are sweet and stickey, kind of like apricot jam. They do have a lot of small seeds in them which you don't want to eat. They used to grow on my grandparents ranch and the cows would eat them when they fell of the tree. I like them but haven't found them in stores.
