the devil up during this "holy" moment?

It's definitely right to bring this up at that moment.

We renounce Satan all the time -- when we go to Mass, when we receive Communion, when we go to confession, and so on.

The only difference here is that the parents / godparents are actually verbalizing this renunciation.

When an adult is baptized into the Church, he/she renounces Satan him/herself. But when it's a baby or young child, the parents / godparents do it for them.

This is not actually an intrinsic part of baptism. All that is necessary for a Catholic baptism is water and the words "I baptize you [n] in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." That simple rubric is the full necessary form for baptism, and when these words are said and the water is applied, all God's salvation, grace, and love is present to that single moment.

However more elaborate rites can be used in those circumstances where it is possible, such as in the liturgy. The rejection of Satan is one of the "baptismal promises." He is brought into it so that the recipient (if at the age of reason) can be asked to conciously choose the path of Christ, and not the alternative.

But even as an elaboration of the rite, Satan is not "part of" baptism - that happens in the water and words of baptism alone. The other stuff is there solely as a reminder of the new responsibilities a Christian (and Christian parents) has taken on. And responsibilities cannot be taken on without being given an understanding of what they are.

As to the spurious accusations in the post above that Catholics aren't Christian, that's ridiculous. Catholics called themselves Christians and all Christians called themselves Catholic one thousand four hundred years before Martin Luther's grandfather was a twinkle in his great-grandfather's eye. You wouldn't know what Christianity even WAS if generations and generations of monks hadn't copied it all out for you. I really wish people could learn to cease such nonsensical bigotry.

Renouncing Satan and all his works is promising to be good and follow the laws of God. The Godparents are speaking for the Baby because they can't speak for themselves. We renew our Baptismal vows every Easter as well

That is what Baptism is all about for the believers...to get rid of original sin made by Eve. The Godparents "renounce Satin" in the name of the child being baptized. The whole rite is about sin and Satin....where are you coming from?

What the preist is doing is asking the parents to make a vow to teach that child in the way of the faith of the church they're doing the baptism in. So, wouldn't one of the requisites be that you would renounce Satan and avow faith in God?

why, do we fool him if we dont talk about him? is it like if you hide your face in your hands, then the people in the room cant see you. im not catholic, im christian. yes they are different. you see, in the bible it states that you have to recieve your salvation to go to heaven, that is, get saved as some call it, but catholics for some reason do not do this. baptism does not give you your salation, baptism is like a wedding band to a marriage. it is the outward symbol of your inward commitment to god. but as we know, wearing the ring does not make you commited. people cheat everyday. you have to live the commitment. but since the act of baptism is to show everyone your decision to rebuke satan, and live for god, that it can be done without saying it. its like saying, should we not bring up honoring and obeying during a loving wedding ceremony?

nicely nicely. I think of maximum people who'd choose there baptism renounced weren't in any respect christians interior the 1st place. I think of that they have got been baptised against there'll, the two by making use of toddler baptism or while a youthful baby compelled by making use of there mothers and fathers no longer even understanding what baptism replace into all approximately and not in any respect given a call, i propose what baby will communicate out against there mothers and fathers needs good day? after all turning out to be a christian isn't getting dunked in water is it? it truly is first faith in christ Jesus believing that he died on your sin, paying your penalty, and starting to be back. Repenting of your sin... Then comes baptism by making use of water and baptism by making use of the Holy Spirit. with the aid of this technique your relationship with God is restored and you will truly comprehend God for my section... this is why some christians could look a sprint loopy, with the aid of fact they have truly got here upon God and can't have faith something of the worldwide is so oblivious to God, so they flow marching the streets with ther plaquards asserting 'Jesus loves you' lol. (although maximum do no longer, and share there faith lots extra appropiately) understanding the above you will see that how maximum actual christians could under no circumstances resign there faith, with the aid of fact they have been touched by making use of God, and this an experinece they could't drop no matter what trials they wade with the aid of... they have known God and no person can take that far flung from them. It basically shows lack of information thinking they choose some certificates to assert there no longer a christian anymore, It strikes me as stupidity. in case you abadon your faith you abandon it. possessing a bite of paper doesnt make any difference does it? Duh.

I'm not Catholic, but I don't see why not. You are renoucing him, not uplifting him. Believers shouldn't make Satan out to be this boogie man type guy and think it's unholy to talk about him. Heck if anything, understanding satan better and making a bigger deal out of him might help us all to realize when he's trying to screw with us.

Yes - Satan isn't necessarily a being. It's just your parents saying that they won't do any evil.
