My cat has a uti and is 17 with renal failure. She has had uti's before. Amoxicillin wasnt enough but Clavamox worked. I went to the vet today and got a bottle of Clavamox. The expiration was 9-05. He said it was a new shipment and he has no other Clavamox. Doesnt know when will get any in. Doesnt know if it will still work. Does anyone know if it will still be useful if I give her a bit more. I even called a pharmacist who also didnt know. They both thought it still would be ok, just a slight loss of potency. Any ideas???

What you should do is take your expired clavamox back to your vets office and get a cash refund if you paid for it.
Have him write up a prescription for clavamox and take it to another vets office to get it filled, you shouldn't have any problems.
The medication expired nine months ago , do you want to take a chance with your cats health. Probably work , how can that be said if the vet doesn't even know.

Do you want to take a chance with probables? I wouldn't

I would get him to call anouther vet and get it for you from there or give you a written rx and you can find it online. Also if your cat is in renal failure it should recieve daily fluids to help it's body flush the toxins the kidneys can not process anymore this will also help with uti.

Is it the liquid Clavamox - the one that is dry and is mixed with water? If so, what I've been told is that it keeps it's strenght until it is mixed, and then must be used within 10 days.

It should still work but i would watch the cat closely incase it gets sick from it. If he/she seems fine I would use it only untill I could get some that isn't expired. try to order it online mabe?

I hope you didn't pay for it!!!!!! That is unethical to sell expired meds!!!!!!!! It will probably still work. I cannot believe he isn't getting any more in either!!! That is a staple medication for cats!!!! Get your money back if you paid for it!!!!
