It is called a heat in dogs.
As an average it last 21 days, the first 5 to 9 days she will play and tease the male.
From about the 9 to 15th day she will actually let the male breed with her.
For the remaining 4 to 6 days she will alternate between teasing or biting the males head off if he gets too near the business end of her body.
I am sending a email address that may help a little more.

The above time frames are different with each and every dog, the same as with a womans menstration cycle.

most dog go throgh three phase of mensration. the first is when she will get more cuddly or more possesive for about 2 weeks then you go into the heat cycle that is the bleeding part for another 2 weeks and then she will still be producing scent inticing phermones for another 2 weeks. It is best to keep her away from all boys at this time. a total of 6-8 weeks is best of no boys around. If you are not going to breed her the get Her spayed as soon as the vet says it's ok. It will save you a lot of heart ache in the long run. If your chihuahua does get knocked up she will more than likely need a C section which can be very expensive and she could die while under the knife.

my chihuahua usually was in heat for maybe 2 weeks give or take a few days.

Just to add what the person above me said, my grandmother was a chihuahua breeder too, and only ONCE did they have to give the dog a c section. My chihuahua had 5 or 6 puppies once and SHE didn't have to have a c-section... so.... that's not entirely true.

That can actually vary from dog to dog. Close observation and a couple of notes on your calendar will help you figure this one out. Keep her away from male dogs from the first sign of heat, for at least 20 days.

Better get her fixed soon, if she's going into heat.
