You have just as much a chance catching anything any time you have sex if you do it unprotected. So, step 1 is making sure you use protection. Step 2 is making sure you're really ready, and from the sounds of it, I do not think you are ready just yet. While you don't have to wait until marriage, having sex is a big step. You should wait until you are absolutely positively sure it is right. Also, think about pregnancy. Do you want to be a parent right now? I'm hoping you don't because it's hard enough to grow up as it is and having a kid would only make it worse for you. I gave up my virginity at 15 and I really wish I'd waited until the first person I truly did love came along a few years later. Give it some time. If it's right with this person, it will be right even if you wait longer. Don't rush growing up!

I think it is a bad idea, because sex isn't made to communicate feelings, it is made to pass sperm to the egg. We have made it into a "romantic" action. Being an adult that sees how stupid he was as a teenager thinking that sex was the right thing to do, I can tell you that in your teen years, and even into early 20s, you do not see how immensely important sex and love is, and when you abuse it you make it little more than a handshake.
Middle school and high school and even college are not the times to be worrying about sex. You can worry about sex when you get married.

I think that middle school kids and most high school kids should not have sex because they don't know what true love is. At that age your hormones are raging and you just want to fool around without thinking about long term complications from doing something when you were a kid. So wait until you have lived a little and experienced life before you do something so stupid. And if you think that he/she loves you tell them you want to wait and if they truly love you they will wait with you.

You have the same chance of catching something no matter HOW old you are. Not to mention, catching the WORST thing of all...pregnancy.
Wait until you are mature enough to make the correct decision. Use birth control.
You have your whole life to have sex. Dont make a mistake you will have to pay off for the rest of your life.

I think 18 is a good age, too. It's so much cooler to wait.
And.. to answer the disease question: you can "catch" something at any age.
do yourself a favor. Wait. You're not missing out on anything but a lot of heartache and confusion.

I think at 18 is a great age but anything below that age I would have to say no on that point.

I think that teens are not emotionally mature for that type of decision. They might think they are prepared physically, but who is really prepared for such a big step?

People can be born with STDS (from there parents) so it's really hard to say. I actually know someone who was born with AIDS. I'd be careful. I know it's hard to wait but you'd be glad you did.
