It would seem so.

I think so, too. Think back to just 100 years ago. Children frolicking, people picnicking on sunny days and fishing with handmade poles and dig-em-yourself worms, lemonde and parasols, horse-drawn buggies strolling through the midst of carefree afternoons. If we could raise them from the dead and fastforward them for one day into modern society and "progress," I have no doubt they would opt to return to their graves...

I believe these issues have existed forever but today they are either abused, doctors just throw around the label to give someone something to hang on to or people self diagnose and give themselves the label of being depressed, anxious, etc.

But I also believe that there is more awareness these days and it's okay to talk about mental illness, or life's challenges and the effects that stress and worry have on our mental outlook.

We all have the capacity to get down now and again but that doesn't mean that we should carry about the label of being depressed. Anxiety and mood disorders effect lots of people for lots of reasons and getting to the root cause of those reasons is of utmost importance. Not just masking them.

The hard part about it all is that there is a wide variety of depression medicine, each one works differently for different people! There are the common heard ones like zoloft or prozac but the best thing to do is go see a doctor who can better recommend a certain one for you. It also depends on how severe your depression and anxiety is or even what the cause may be. The doctor will ask you a series of questions and based on the answers you give will determine the type of medicine that will help you the best!

there is a lot of evidence to support that bipolarism is being dramatically overdone from a clinical diagnosing standpoint.. kind of like what depression was in the last decade.. I think it may be the influence that big pharmaceutical companies has on doctors now.. they hand out free samples like candy.. and build up unhealthy relationships.. just ask for a pen to sign a form with and 99% of the time there is a drug logo on it.. not healthy for a relationship at all... total conflict of interest.

in my lifetime the world population has doubled, then doubled again, wow. add to that cars, and carbon monoxide poisoning us. add to that the food supply has been poisoned. global warming.

but let's not get too syrupy about the past; all was not sunshine and roses. and indeed there was plenty of 'depression, anxiety and general mood disorders' a hundred years ago. people dealt with things differently then. there were very few psychiatrists in those days, and the newspapers and magazines didn't stories about it, indeed people in general didn't talk about it. these days having a therapist is trendy.

I would have to answer that as a yes, but it is because people feel safer labeling things that they don't understand. If there have been these illnesses for so long, before you or I were born, why now all of sudden do these illnesses have names.
