That is disappointing, to say the least. Disgusting, actually. I am thinking the so-called new energy into "enforcement" of the immigration laws are just lip service to pacify the American citizens who want to think the borders are being sealed and the government is actually doing it's very best to prevent illegal immigration. I think whoever was the person in Immigration who told the sheriff to let them go should be forced to answer for this and he should lose his job to someone who will do the job he is being paid to do!

Sounds to me like it's time to just blow out the INS and start fresh, get some people with no conflicts of interest, no friends, buddies, cousins, in-laws that benefit by the shoddy enforcement of immigration law as it already stands on the books. Otherwise practices like that one are just a slap in the face, not only of law enforcement, but also in the face of the american public, too.

'Less illegal immigration' should be the buzz-phrase here, and if the INS/ICE/FWA(fraud, waste, and abuse) or whatever they're calling themselves these days can't/won't do their jobs, then it's time for mass firings in their ranks, tear it apart and rebuild it from 'go'. Not impossible, but it would require 'work', and 'integrity', and stuff like that....

Depressing. If it wasn't for the fact that non-enforcement has been going on for years, I would give the immigration service the benefit of the doubt. After all, Bush is their boss, and he is committed to getting amnesty for at least most of those here. It probably won't cover those who committed other crimes or those who have deportation orders they ran from. Those are the kinds of people picked up in that 'Return to Sender' sweep recently. I could see Bush's administration saying to focus and clamp down hard on those types, but to not particularly aim for 'ordinary' illegals, since they may be soon qualified for amnesty.

The problem is that it is the lack of enforcement that got us where we are. I don't see amnesty being approved at least until Americans are convinced that going forward the border will be secure and the laws will be enforced. Unfortunately, we already know we can't just trust them on those points. We tried that.

OK as long as you (American people) keep letting Mexican or Latin or illegal people working and living in your country, we will have our people running away from our countries, i was happy when you announced that you wont let illegal people work or live in the us, why? because that will make Mexican people stay and fight for our own country, i want a good way of living, and yes i will love to live the "American dream" but here in Mexico with my family and my culture, and that is not going to happen if every body is leaving the country not paying taxes anywhere, not saving money, etc.
I'm not saying that you have to be racist with us, because we are neighbors, but you have to be hard enough to follow your own rules that in the end will help Mexico grow up and stop being an undeveloped country.

So typical of the government. But the victims of these illegals when they smash into them will be without a vehicle, injured, maybe killed, imposed with higher insurance rates while the pro-illegal advocates continue to clamour about the poor illegals and how they have it so bad, that illegal immigration is a "victimless crime" and that all who complain about the harm inflicted by these illegal invaders are just racist. Nice country we live in, NOT!
