Stress, as I'm sure you are aware, is a huge contributing factor to depression, anxiety and many other unwanted emotional issues and challenges in our lives today.

You need to find a way to relieve and release the stress, not focus on the things you don't want and begin to focus on the end result of what you wish to accomplish in life or what you desire in life.

Obviously not knowing exactly what the extent of the issues are (the family stuff) it's hard to pinpoint a specific remedy so I will offer you some generalized information and self healing techniques that work wonders and I would highly suggest you give them a whirl.

Hypnotherapy is wonderful for relieving stress and anxiety, for allowing one to relax and regain a sense of themselves while also uncovering underlying issues that may be contributing factors to the symptoms being experienced.

Emotional Freedom Technique is also a wonderful self healing technique that can alleviate symptoms and uncover connected issues contributing to depression and anxiety.

Bach Flower Therapy works at restoring balance at the soul level, transforming a negative state into an attribute and is very easy to apply as well.

Find a good mental health therapist and psychiatrist in your area and make an appointment to see them ASAP. I mention the psychiatrist only because there are several good medications on the market to help you with the symptoms of depression and anxiety, but you need to see a doctor to get them prescribed. I am a firm believer in talk therapy, the meds can help alleviate some of the symptoms and begin to make you feel better, but you need to be able to work through the issues that caused you to be depressed/anxious in the first place. Good luck!

Depression and anxiety are common when there are unresolved issues and they will not go away until you resolve your issues if it is bad enough than you should seek professional help but if you know that you can work it out with your family on your own than you should try. Take it one problem at a time and find your inner strength!

You're an intelligent professional suffering from depression and you haven't consulted a professional about this? Why does an intelligent adult go to a Yahoo answer site instead of seeing a doctor?

change up your daily routines. for example, take a different way to work every couple of days. don't stay in the house when u are feeling down, u are goin to feel alone at times outside your house but through out the time your are out the house things will happen around you to take your mind away from how lonely and down you feel. movies are really good for these moments cause atleast for 2 hours u won't be thinking about how sorry you feel! no matter how difficult it feels to talk to a friend, do it anyways, creating a outage for these feelings will lessen the load. go to a pet store, i know playing with the puppies and kittens made me feel better. go to a park that has a great view and steer at it and keep repeating in your mind "theres more to life then whats around me, the world is huge and i haven't seen it all. there are more to this world than what i can see." every now and then when your outside walking somewhere steer into the horizon or the sky and repeat that phrase or look around you and think to yourself "there is more to life then this and its up to me to change how my life is goin, only i can fix this and thank the lord for giving you life everyday to change your life til it becomes what i want.... happoiness and love!" also tell yourself everyday "trouble dont last always!"
these things work for me when i would fall into depression. never ever tell ur doctor about your depression cause drugs only make the depression worse and make u have out of body experiences by the drug makn your body and attitude feel good, but your mind is constantly telln u the real deal. "I'm only feeling like this because of the drugs, this isn't real!"

See a therapist. Don't be embarrassed. Therapy is not just for loonies -- it's for everyone of all intellectual and socio-economical classes.

In the meantime, you can read MANY excellent articles on coping with depression and anxiety at http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.html

This is the best depression site I have ever come across.

Go see your Dr. There are alot of medications out there that can help you with few side effects. Depression can be hereditary so keep that in mind. My brother finally went to the Dr., he put him on Prozac & it made a world of difference. He just had to get past that "male ego" trip, where he was embarrassed to admit he suffered from depression You owe it to yourself & family to check it out.

i suggest you see a psychologist or family therapist ASAP

but keep one thing in mind... your not alone, the entire world is struggling with one problem or another, and family problems can be a headache for anyone. take it easy, go away for a bit if you have to and then come back. might change things.

Find a way to de-stress. You may also need to talk to a doctor or therapist.

Me, I think I just need something to go beat the crap out of now and again.

Your best bet is to exercise and socialize. Working out will give you a clearer mind and socializing will reconnect you with the world.
