I just had one. All you need to do is have the technician give you a cover for your eyes and keep your eyes shut while having it. Think of something else while the test is being performed. Some hospitals have music that is playing while it is going on. It is the thought of being in a tunnel like device for that period of time that scares one.

No reason to be afraid. It's just uncomfortable lying there without moving. Nothing scary. Close your eyes while you're in the machine and imaine you are someplace else, but really - not at all scary.
Ask the MRI people to show you exactly what the process is before you actually get the MRI. It will probably calm you down knowing in advance what you're going to go through.

Well, have you ever been in a tanning bed? because let me tell you that you have way more room in the MRI. If claust. is the case then talk to your doctor about the MRI. He or she obviously wants you to have the test and will be willing to work with you to achieve the best outcome. talking about it with a professional is the best way to overcome your fear. they can give you real information about the MRI and may give you a tour before actually doing the proceedure.

MRI's are not painful. However, if you are afraid of closed spaces, like the tube they use to do the MRI, you could always check for places in your city that have open MRI. Open MRI is a good option for those people who do not like small spaces.

no suggestions how to overcome fear but this might help. when I had a MRI, I went to an open one. It's like a big drum on the wall and you just beeping and pings. since you are on a table in the open it is really nothing.

Do you have to go all the way into the machine or are you having your knees or ankle checked? Either way the machine makes alot of weird noises as the magnets shift positions but you don't feel anything. The assistant will tell you what you can't wear in the machine (metal items) and go over a questionnaire with you to see if you have metal objects in your body from other surgeries, etc. I was nervous too but it turned out to be no big deal. The machine is huge but it is not dark when you are in the tunnel.

MRI is no problem at all.It doesnt hurt at all. Doesnt affect tattoos. Unless your claustrophobic there is really nothing to fear. Just think of it as a giant camera.

I had to have multple MRI's for cancer workup, the worst being the hockey mask over your head. My doctor gave me Zanax to take before each test and have a friend come with you for support. I got through it OK.

breathe. they might let you listen to music, and there is a difference between enclosed and open mri. get the mri all it does is spin around you. it can't hurt you unless you have metal in your skin.
