My Husband and I are looking forward to having kids and it'll be so wonderful, and so much fun too! :)

Asside from all other concerns on how to raise them, etc., my main concern might sound silly at some point. Both of us are wearing glasses because of the vision problems: I have 6.5/7.0 vision and he has about 29.0 vision in both eyes (that's worse than my vision), due to that he has to wear specially designed glasses for his eye-sight just to see well. Only few of my relatives actually wear glasses, but due to the other health problems. And, as far as I know, no one wears them on his side of the family.

My questions are: How will this fact affect our kids? Will they have to wear glasses too? And/or how seriously their vision "problem" will be? Does the vision problem skip a generation, or not?

In other words: What should we know ahead of time so that way we'll know how to help, assist, and guide our kids in case they'll have to wear glasses or have any other vision problems?

My Parents never wore glasses before utill about 2 years ago, because as they said their vision was starting to blur and they couldn't see well. They do though wear "light" prescription: 1.573 and 2.459, that you can get in any store. The rest of the relatives have either Diabetes or other health problems that make the vision go bad. My Husband and I were born with the vision problem. He and I had to start wearing them when we were 2 and 3 years old (in our own time).

Depends entirely if your sight condition is hereditary or not your ophthalmologist should be able to tell you this, next time you go in ask about you eye condition and your husbands and go ahead and ask about any other hereditary condition that you may concern yourself with. But don't let that be the deciding factor in having children there is a chance in even the worst cases that your children will never have anything you or your husband have, don't think about those things too much just enjoy each other and the idea of your family!

I have 4 grown children and my husband also has vision problem and I myself wear glasses due to a throid condition. On my husband side of the family eye sight problems. Anyways out of 4 of my children 2 has wear glasses and there vision is worse then ours. Sometimes though it misses a generation. Just because you and your husband has to wear glasses and have bad eyesight doesn't necessiarily you both will pass this on to your children. My 2 that has bad eyesight and I mean bad eyessight has 2 children and their children eyes are 20/20 good vision, so it just depends.

My parents neither wore glasses, but everyone of their children did. We all have very poor vision. My children both have poor vision also, so it is hereditary. My husband does not wear glasses though, but I guess my genes were stronger than his in this regard. There are more options now for poor vision though such as laser surgery, etc. My oldest son was wearing contacts at age 14 because other children made fun of him and he was determined to be able to wear contacts even at that age.
