The truth is no one really knows if God is a woman or a man. In the bible it does refer to God as He. However, one must realize that the bible was written by men. They brought their patriarchal views to the table and put them in the book. Men are fragile creatures who are afraid of what they don't understand. There was no way a that those men who wrote the bible would have actually admitted that God was a woman even if they knew different because they would loose that power over their wives and slaves.

The perfection can't be any gender, it should be self contain object. But for little educated ppl the concept of female being a god ( remember GOD was invented by man 1000's year ago) and Female was an official property of a men and nothing more, take a guess why Man's god is not a female.
And the amasing Creation story of primitive minds would understand the concept that Eve eat the fruit first and then Female GOD would punish her and not the Adam.
It's the unknown that defines our existence.

In my land, we don't usually really have this silly issue of whether God is a He or She because quite simply, apart from english, I don't know of any other language here where we have a "He" or "She". On top of that God has always been thought to be above humanity.
Unlike say french where even inanimate objects are given genders. It's all a matter of context.
Arguing whether God is a He or a She is in essence asking whether God is human, and as a result whether the one gender is superior to the other based on this fact.
Both of which are really stupid questions when you realise the nature of the being whose gender you are considering.

Judaism is a better authority on the nature of the biblical God than Christianity, which sprang from Judaism:
In Judaism, God has no body, God is non-physical. Any mention of God's body is considered to be metaphorical.
Any physical representation of God, such as the Golden Calf, is considered to be idolatry.
As God has no body, He has no gender.
While God is referred to in masculine terms and the Shechinah (Divine presence that fills the universe) is referred to in feminine terms, God is actually neither male nor female.

Things tend to be universally referred to as He (especially if their gender is unknown), but God never specifically said he was a man. Remember, men wrote the Bible, not God. I think that not only men but people in general would refer to God as "he" instead of "her" when writing the Bible because that is the universal referential pronoun. I think God is made up of both genders, since both men and women were created in his image. There! I just did it. I said "his" image without even thinking about it until I read it over. Everybody does that.

Probably its cos there are so many references in the bible to a "masculine" God. Even the Lord's prayer begins "Our Father..." so its not surprising people visualise a man.
Interestingly, there is a small island in the Cook Islands, Aitutarki where there is a village of some 50 followers of a woman who they beleive to be the second coming of Christ.
Good luck....

Well for a number of reasons...I'm not being biased here. But the bible referes to God as a "he". So that's one reason, also, because God first put Adam on earth, and they realized how lonely he was so he gave him Eve. And made her a female and attractive and so on. So that he wouldn't be lonely. Second, the bible also refers to how woman should be respected in a certain way, such as, how woman shouldnt work in a church, (as in woman shouldn't be priests and deacons and so forth). and things like that, so woman are second nature (but still equal).

God is neither man or woman. God is a spirit. People usually attribute a gender to God to make it easier to understand.

Technically, the Bible portrays god as androgynous, and in the *orginal* contexts in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic uses both feminine and masculine pronouns at varios times. Especially in Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, and Jude are the feminie pronouns used. So the Bible technically portrays god as beyond gender. Its the translations of translations that are used in the churches that cause this all to common misconception. The only person of god that had definite gender to Christians was Jesus.

god is not a male
nor is god a female
the bible which is the first written acount of god
was originally written in hebrew
and in hebrew there are words used for male and female genders
but when refering to soming that no gender or both (such as a group of people) male is used in hebrew
so god having no physical body therefore no gender was written as male
oh the 'in god's image' thing?
that refers to intelligence
