Why do they sell cigarettes gas stations when smoking is prohibited there?

I've also wondered why they sell beer at gas stations is its illegal to drink and drive.

Because they're open 24 hours and when smokers need a fix they will go there. Gas stations tend to charge more for smokes - but it's convenient and us addicts are willing to pay for it.

ALso if you're on the road and don't want to stop, where else are you going to get them? By the way in Canada it's illegal to sell smokes in a pharmacy.

Because they are a convenient store they sell items that you want in a hurry without going to the big super markets to get them. They still check your ID but that is the Law, it is more Convenient to get them at the gas station. I don't smoke any more but I got them at the gas station at the grocery store but mainly at the gas station.

Only smoking is prohibited there but selling is not (you can sell anything there as long as it's legal).

It's convenient. Liquor stores sell liquor, but there's a sign prohibiting drinking alcoholic beverages on their property. Who knows? Just don't buy what you don't need or want.

For the same reason the sell charcoal and lighter fluid at a grocery store even though you can't grill there...
