i've been depressed for long, due to health and social issues. my mind keeps telling me i'm crap, i'm worthless. and i don't see anyway to get out of this. Even when i forget it, then if i see some people happy or with friends( which i don't have), and knowing that i can't have that life makes me feel sad again.

I hope that you have found the proper medication. Having seen enough of this kind of thing I would suggest two things. The first is to go to Dr. with a friend or family member that knows the differance when you are doing or not doing well, or not too bad. This person can answer some questions for you so that the Dr. will see a different picture of how you are doing. This could lead to some med changes. Take notes on side affects to give to doctor. The second would be to try a drug and alcohal counceler. Depression can be part and parcel with drinking so you should be able to get some counceling. There is another thing that you can try depending an where you live, Canada / US. There is a program in Canada that helps people find jobs or volenteer positions. Dr.'s Councelers and Government funded job finding busineses will all work together to help get you in a better frame of mind. You may find full or part time work or be on a pention and volenteer. Keep in mind that many people do not understand what it is like to suffer like this. There is also a program in Canada that is called (Living With Depresion) ,that will help you understand how to get well and stay that way. We all have up and down time, but these kinds of programs are there to help you have more up than down. You must live today, make it better than yesterday. On a lighter note stop saying Thank God its over, when you get into bed and oh bummer, when you wake up in the morning.

Have you ruled out the fact that your depression is a physical problem that medication can help? Why do you think you can't have a life filled with friends? Making friends requires effort and confidence that's true, but if you join some groups, clubs, or a church, or take a course in something you like you will find people to talk to, this reduces the burden and will help you feel better. Good Luck

I think even without paying for it you will benefit from outside help. It is hard to go out and make friends when you feel worthless. Anti depressants are effective in lifting your mood but changing your thought patterns is even more effective in the long term. It means learning how to interrupt the negative thoughts which you already recognise that you have. You can get good self help books on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy even if you can't get the therapy directly from a GP referral.

Eating well, taking exercise/ fresh air, saying hello to a few complete strangers on your way will help you feel better.

You CAN 'have that life', one step at a time!

I would like to suggest that you explore the possibility of self application of a wonderful self healing technique EFT "Emotional Freedom Technique."

This way it will be free to you if you self teach and self apply and you won't have to have anyone tell you to get happy, rather you will be able to experience the transformation as it occurs on your own.

Check out the link below for additional information on the technique, a diagram and free manual download.

Maybe you have a chemical imbalance in your brain that requires medication. Perhaps you should consider seeing a doctor.
