I believe in freedom of religion, for everyone. Having said that, I do NOT believe in Baptism by proxy.

How do I find out if a deceased family member has been baptized into the LDS faith by proxy? Is there any way to discover who was baptized in their place? How would I remove my family member(s) from the LDS baptism rolls?

Wahnote, I do not have any LDS relatives.

I am curious about this because of the Holocaust victims I read about. Somehow, I don't think they had any relatives who practiced LDS, thank you very much.

My question is: How do I ascertain this hasn't been done to someone in my family? After all, if the LDS church is presumptuous enough to baptize by proxy Holocaust victims, what's to stop them from doing it to anyone else?

If there were nothing to hide, LDS members wouldn't be so touchy about this subject, would they?

Most of the people that are baptised by proxy are a family member of a member of the Church. That is why we are so keen on researching our geneology. If you have a family mamber that is also a Member of the Church then they might have done the geneology and submitted those names already.

Very rarely are names just pulled at random and had the work done for them, they are almost alway family.

Like Topher said, LDS do not just take any name to baptize them.
it has to be submitted by relatives or some one.
Personelly speaking , I have my own ancestor to take care of, whether they believe or not. I definitely do not have time to think about other peoples ancesters.

The best way to find out whether your family member has been baptized is to look and see whether you have a family member that is a LDS, and ask that person what name he or she submitted.

I don't know what LDS is. But baptizing the dead is as useless as baptizing anyone alive. And worrying about it is even more useless.

Baptize whoever, whenever, it is not going to change anything.

We are who we are. If there was any baptism, it was of the whole world when Jesus died on the cross.

No prayer or action can change that.

how do you explain then all the holocaust victims that have shown up on the LDS baptism rolls?

The LDS has agreed several times to stop this practice but keep getting caught doing it.

the baptism for the dead is (currently) only for the already dead that never had a chance to hear Christ's word (says them, not me) and there are so many people dead that they have alot of people to get to...they dont always even use names..i dont think they will ever let you take any names off that list, if they even use a list...i am just a girl and we all know that women cant be trusted with any sacred info so i have no idea how they organize it but i know they are fanatics so good luck.....
