bonjela is the most fantastic substance ever for dealing with pain in the mouth. I use it for ulcers, i used it when I had my tooth out and I used about 3 tubes of the stuff when I had my tongue pierced. It numbs and kills germs to clear up the ulcer, its great stuff. between 2 and 3 pounds from any chemist.

Rinse frequently with warm water & table salt (4 oz water to 1 tsp salt). Try not to eat or drink for 1/2 hour after you rinse for maximum benefit.

Take 2 ibuprofen every six hours. Avoid acidic food & drinks until it has cleared up (orange juice & other citruses; condiments like ketchup and mustard; soda; coffee; spaghetti sauce; salad--you get the idea). Get some L-Lysine amino acid tabs from your health store and take 2 a day while you have the sore; 1 a day after that. Finally, use a mild toothpaste, like a kid's toothpaste or Sensodyne. Avoiding mouth irritants will go a long way to get rid of the sore.

Stop using the mouthwash - it is most likely irritating it further. Use some salty water instead - one teaspoon of salt to one quart water- rinse and swish with this every hour for the first day - every two hours the second day and your ulcer should be clearing up. This will NOT hurt - it doesn't sting even though it seems like it would.

If you want to do the salt thing without feeling the urge to throw up, do what my ex does....

Get a few bags of Disco's (yes the round crisps) the salt n vinegar flavour. And when you have one in your mouth just position it on the ulcer. It will sting for a bnit but do it with every crisp (resist the urge to munch) and it will help.

Tastes better than gargling salt water or sticking vinegar n your gob!

Taking zinc supplement will cause you to get these less often. There are also a lot of products on the market over the counter for this- Ora Jel makes some products for this also.

Bonjela is the best thing, most pharmacies sell it over the counter. It'll calm down soon, but avoid really spicy or salty foods for a while.

Poor you - you can buy products from the chemist (pharmacy) which will ease the pain until it eventually goes away. Then, eat healthily (lots of fresh fruit and veg) to stop the problem recurring.

Abreva, a little blue box. That is of course assuming that the ulcer is a cold sore.

WOAH! HOLD ON

Everybody who suggested going to the doctor, shut up please. It's only a mouth ulcer if people go to the doctor's for minor ailments like that it's little wonder the nhs is so stretched, toughen up you wimps and stop wasting precious time.

Anyway mate back to your question. I always use a swilling of whiskey to numb it and then a bit of salt.
