You compare different issues:
Since god does not really exist, except in the minds of believers, god can't be anything, including fool!
Man, believing something non existing is an idiot!

I wouldn't think that God has ever been foolish, just maybe what we perceive as being foolish (like why he would put a forbidden tree in Paradise.) As far as man, he is stupid all the time.
