No confrontation but a quiet and amicable conversation. Ask him why he doesn't want a dog, listen to what he has to say then take each one of his objections in turn, sticking to an objection at a time and put forward your solutions.

I have to tell you that the majority of dogs abandoned come from families who did not originally agree to one, for instance one person wanted a dog badly, the other one didn't. So please think seriosuly about taking on a dog, as he/she might suffer later on.

If you're really missing the company of a cnine, reason why you want to have a dog, then try to get involved with dog charities, shelters etc. You could also join a pet-sitting list (With your husband's approval of course) and maybe when your husband realises that dogs are not the problems he predicted, when he sees how well you look after them ... he might change his mind.

Please remember Dog Trust motto : A dog is for life, not for Christmas'.

In other words you may well decide to take on anything your husband might object to and then, finding out that he really, really doesn't want them, take them by to she shop and ask for a refund. And that's OK by the way !!! Because those are only things! Whereas a dog is a living creature. A dog has feelings so please think about it.

Best wishes

You have to make an unanimous decision, If he is not ok with getting a dog right now then you shouldn't push the issue. Unless everyone in the family is willing to bring in an animal into the home and care for it then don't adopt one now. Wait awhile and maybe his attitude will change.

He has to agree to getting a dog. Dogs can end up being very expensive when things go wrong. You don't want him to not forgive you for a large vet bill or worse, refuse to allow you to take a dog to the vet by refusing to pay for it.
Just keep working on him, showing him how cute they are, how friendly the neighbor's dog is. Or, the poor thing has no home and couldn' t we..........

Tell him a sad story about not being allowed to have one when you were growing up.If you try the cutting off trick,it could backfire on you,he might go somewhere else to get it.

If he really doesn't want a dog, why push it? You might just cause unnecessary stress in your marriage.

It is easier to get forgiveness than it is to get permission.
