I have a 3 year old boxer I got from a friend. He does have lyme disease. He is not or have never been housebroken, he gets punished when he does do something wrong. He also eats things off the counters when we are not home, he never did this before it is a new habit, we kick his butt and he still does it. How can i get him to take a hint!

First and formost, I don't "beat him". I smack his snout when he does something wrong. And for people that don't know how to spell, need to stop giving advice. Thank you to the people who have boxer knowledge, I have a fawn female and she knows better then to get into crap. He is just dense.

Dogs have a 3 min time span..So if you are gone when he eats something off the counter, and you come home and discover it and punish him, he has no idea why.Lyme disease or not, he can be housebroken, it is all about consistency.Feed him and wait 15 minutes and then take him for a walk, always remember, when you are training a dog, take them to the SAME place everytime, so their scent will be there, and they will recognize that is the place I go potty...Also, don't leave food on your counters, dogs are like perpetual 5 yr olds, will do anything they can to "have fun".Try leaving him treats throughout your house, smoked pig ears are good, and most dogs like them. Also, you can go to PetsRus and get toys that have holes in them so you can stuff a treat in them to keep the dog interested.IF all else fails, buy him a kennel and keep him in there as long as you are not going to be gone all day, as soon as you get home, take him to the SAME SPOT so he can go potty, be patient, he will figure it out..
Good Luck to ya

As the Owner of Boxer Plantation of Reg Fawn Boxers only.
Your going at it all WRONG. Kicking his *** is not the way. You have to think like a dog. Who is the boss? Are you alfa or am I.
You beening mean to him will only make him rebeal. My Sire did not start growing up til he was around 4yrs old. What you have to do is this..... When he jumps on the counter you can't loss it and scream and hit that mean nothing but hardship on him. You can mean more with a look and a touch than how you r going at it. Grab him by the back of the neck not hard. Make him set, than have him lay down but first than front paws. Next you have him lay on his side you are now making your self the alfa. If he trys to get up do it several times if it takes it. But please dont hurt him, its a dogs world from his point.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMPQH

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Well i have a boxer and his name is Frederick hehe.
When he was little (he is 6 now) he used to eat/destroy everything. He didnt stop until he was almost 4, which made us think he would be like that forever. Once, he ate my dad's CD collection, there were about 30cds...he totally destroyed them, We also used to have a palm tree in the living room for decoration, but he ate the trunk lol. And many more things, of course. So, my answer to your question is; he will eventually grow up and quit doing those things.. I guess boxers just have a :much: longer time as puppies..MUCH longer haha..

I think you're going about things in the wrong way. There are many humane ways to train this dog but it does take work and consistency. If you like this dog and enjoy his company then take the time to work with him. If you have no patience for him and are not willing to do what it takes to teach him proper behavior then find a rescue group who is willing to take him into a foster home. Boxer rescue would be GLAD to take him and find a home who is willing to work with him. Chances are there really is a good boy in there. He just has no idea what you want from him right now.

Hi! We own 2 boxers. Yes they can be a handfull!! I have learned not to turn your back where there is food. In 2 seconds flat they have it gone and looking for more. They don't mean to be trouble, they are curious!! And if there is food a bonus!! As far as potty training, watch for signs. They show body language. Max will walk to the right of the dining room table and go to the door and stand. So just observe and you can learn their habits.

If somebody kicks you in the head, do you learn anything, or do you just get mad and do it again? Beating the dog will never *teach* him anything except to hate you, fear you, mistrust you, and generally want to get away from you.

First and foremost, *you* have to learn to train a dog, because so far, you're the only one who's screwing things up... Take advice from others and get yourself trained so that you are able to train the dog.

I hate to be terse, but I have no time for people who think *beating* a dog is *teaching* them.

Take him to a good dog training class. Pay the extra money for a good school. It will repay you a thousandfold. Your dog needs exercise and time outdoors w/ you so he is tired when you leave and bahaves better. Punishment alone doesn't work to train anything. If you have children, you know this

Take the dog to a professional trainer who actually knows what they are doing. Most pet stores offer pet obedience classes.
