The downstairs of my house has an ant problem and we have cats. Is there any way to get rid of the ants without hurting the cats? ( I tried cinnamon but it hasn't worked )

I also have pets and just recently had an ant problem. I tried a sprays and ant baits. Neither of those worked. The ants just walked around where I had sprayed and never went in the traps.

I asked around and a friend recommended Combat ant killing gel. I found some at a local hardware store and it worked great. I was amazed at how attracted the ants were to the gel and then how fast they died after eating the gel. And my pets were not at all interested in the gel.

Close the cats out of the basement and place baits. If that doesn't work, call a good pest control company. Also, I have trouble with ants in my kitchen during the summer. A spray bottle of diluted lysol helps, as well as helps keep the area clean.

mix borox soap into molasses or dark karo syrup and pour it into small shallow cups. It won't hurt your cats. the ants will come and eat it, and go back to their nest. The soap kills them when they get back and the other ants eat the body which kills them too. pretty soon, the whole colony is gone! it will look scary, but leave the traps out for about 2 weeks. and don't spray the ants dead, let them make trails back to their nest. in a few days that will be totally gone.

good luck!

Put a little Dawn Dishwashing Liquid on the window sills. It will keep ants out and won't hurt your cats.

Use sprays or baits outside. You can put 20 Mule Team Borax on your window sills. You can sprinkle it in you carpet after you have vacuumed. The boric acid in the 20 Mule Team Borax kills ants and fleas.
