Yes she is overweight. I am 24 and weigh 115. She should weigh less than me. Take her to a doctor or nutritionist. They would be able to tell you what a good diet for her would be. Encourage her to get involved in sports or activities. Get her a bike and have her ride that around. Dont let her sit in front of the tv all day... it is summer after all. She should be outside playing.

South beach, it's wonderful. My sister has her daughter on it and it has helped with her sugar addiction. Look it up online and then go get the paperback and read about the concept of that diet. It's all about getting off the sugar, and gradually learning to live with better choices for eating. I would consult a weight chart to see if she is overweight. Is she big boned, well then maybe she's not a lot overweight, just a little. Is she short? well then that could be part of it, is she tall and small boned? You really have to take her height and weight into consideration. I'd say if she is average height, and average bone density, then she might be 20 lbs over, but not obese. Cut out the soda's, chips, french fries and junk and you will see a huge difference.

More and more today people are not suggesting diets, but life changes. You just need to modify her eating, exercise plan and behavior.

Have her keep an honest journal of what she is eating for about a week and see what can be changed in her everyday eating habits. Then ask her to do the same with what exercise she is doing. Make sure that you make her feel that she can be honest that you will not be disappointed or mad at her honesty in this. After she does this you may see that some changes need to take place and maybe even do some with her to encourage her along the way. That way she will not feel alone as most young girls at this age can feel in these situations.

Also, if she is not taking vitamins you may want to find a multiple one that is suitable for her so that her body is getting what it needs. I know that when I take them I feel better and have less cravings.

I would also reccomend getting this book found at this link, http://www.drphilstore.com/ultwtsol4t.html as it may provide some guidance along the way.

If this does not seem to help to make some of these simple changes, I would go to a doctor as she may have a medical issue with her weight.

it depends how tall she is..if she is under 5ft 6in she might be a little overweight but if she is above that she is healthy. a good diet would consist of no junk food and fruits, veg., white meat, healthier cereals, (have less sugar), and if she likes ice cream buy the light kind. it tastes just as good and its half the fat. it not just the diet though. make sure your daughter is getting enough exercise to stay healthy. take her on a walk, or ask if she wants to play basketball outside instead of sitting on the couch. that will also help your daughter lose some weight. if she follows all of these things she will definitally have a healthier body weight, and she will feel better to!
hope this helps, and good luck!!

12 year olds don't need diets, they are still growing. Do you feed her properly? Do you tell her she's overweight? I hope not. Get her involved in some activities. Do you exercise and eat right? Are you setting a good example for her? You didn't even say what her height was, so I think maybe you're a little nuts, and need to lay off your daughter, unless you'd like her to have a weight problem her whole life

Yes, I would take her to a doctor to start off with. It's always smart to see a doctor and make sure she doesn't have any medical reasons for her extra weight. Then, go to your kitchen. My guess is, your shelves are filled with cookies, chips, sugary cereals, pasta, soda, etc. Start at the grocery by buying healthy but good for you snacks and foods. Try to limit your daughter's snacking and when she does give her fruits and pretzels. The most important thing is to get her outside and get her active. Get a bike and ride with her, walk after dinner, play a sport, go swimming, go hiking at the park. You need to stay in high spirits and be very encouraging and do the diet right with her.

How tall is she? I mean I'm 23 and 5' 2" and only weigh 110. So it really depends on her height, if she's say 5' 6", then that would be fine for a 12 yr. old, but if she's not that tall then yes she's over weight.

Do you have a dog? Taking very good care of a fairly active dog (as in taking it out for a run/jog/walk every day) will help her get out more. I have trouble committing to workouts but with my dogs, I feel so bad for keeping them cooped up in the house all day and leaving them to their own devise that I feel obligated to take them out to play at the park or go for a long walk every day. It makes them happy. It makes everyone happy. Some training would make walking more convenient, too, unless you really want a work out. And please pick up after your dog, too, as common courtesy for your neighbors.
