To me that defeats the whole purpose of asking and answering questions.

I have answered lots of math and science homework help questions and have yet to see one best answer selected. That's not very appreciative, folks. Is your attention span that short??

Many of the homework help, and education questions in general, are asked by self-serving young guns who pretty much want free answers-- even free from thanking and voting.

The rest seem to be people who don't really want answers because they aren't really asking questions. They should call this place Yahoo
Validation. Check out the politics and religion categories... so lame.

I don't understand this, especially when you gain back three of the five points you lose for asking a question. I always select a best answer. f anything, I do this too soon (after 1 day), so I don't give people enough of a time to answer.

No your right, people seem to just love answering and asking but never go back and chose a best answer. That is the whole point!! To see who can come up with the best answer. I've always made it a point to chose the best answer for questions I've asked.

It's annoying, isn't it? I try and pick a best answer as quickly as I can, if it's a factual question(and I can check to see which answer is the most accurate). if it's an opinion question, sometimes I'll put it to a vote.

that is a good question, all I can say is maybe they don't have the time, or didn't find a good answer or just don't care. anyways, I do pick one at the end of mine and I do have a good attention span.

I ask for opinions. It's inappropriate to select an opinion as a 'Best Answer' so I don't.

I either select the best answer or if I can't decide, I put it out to vote.

One question that I asked got one answer only. They answered it "HUH"?
I don't think that should get a best answer!
