When leaving a movie theater, peopel leave there garbage. Why can't they pick it up and throw it out while leaving. Do they assume that;s the job of the Ushers (It's not, they are there for other cleaning reasons), or are people so lazy and don't care. Would you leave your home after dinner that way. Please explain why people can't just pick up the garbage they bring in.

A combination of laziness and entitlement (ex. hey, I paid $6 for this popcorn, so I'm not going to throw the bag away.)

Yes. I have some ideas. I hope this works.

Plan #1 - Rope off half of the theater and leave the garbage there for a week. Do not clean it up! Charge half price for those seats. Charge full price for the seats in the other half of the theater that has been cleaned. People will get the idea.

Plan #2 - Use some hidden surveillance cameras and record people throwing their trash onto the floor. When time comes to leave, have your employees run after them and hand these people a big bag of trash to take with them... "Excuse me sir (or miss) I'm sorry but it seems you left something behind. Is this your trash?" Accidentally drop the bag full of trash all over them, videotape it and show it in the "shorts" section the following week. Make a contest of it: "Who is the Dirty Birdy?" The movie-goer who recognizes the trash-thrower first gets a pass for two to another movie.

Plan #3 Assign seats in the theater, and do not let your customers leave after the movie ends until a "seat check" has been completed.

Plan #4 Post a sign warning that the bathrooms are out of order until further notice. "Due to staff shortages, we could not clean or maintain our bathrooms. Our staff has been so busy cleaning up all your garbage in the theater that there has been no time to clean the bathrooms. Please be considerate and throw your garbage in the trash bins provided. Next week we will decide whether we have enough staff available to open te bathrooms or not. Thank you and have a nice day!"

Some people are just inconsiderate. The person has to make a choice to be considerate to others. Yes some people are lazy, and believe it or not some people will leave their own dinner table looking just like that. Maybe if the people who leave items behind had the job of cleaning up after wards would help, because then they would know how it feels to have to clean up behind people that don't care. Maybe the next time they go to the movies, they will think twice before leaving trash behind.

I worked in a movie theater for several years when I was younger. Let me tell you it is total disrespect to leave garbage for someone else to pick up. You would not believe the messes people make! I understand spilling some popcorn or candy. That is understandable but for God's sake don't smear candy and pour soda on the backs of chairs. For all those out there who leave their garbage REMEMBER.... it's not only the ushers who clean the theaters between shows. The concession attendants also take part in this job. Do you really know if they washed their hands?????????????

Honestly, because they are too lazy to pick up after themselves. Often when I go to theatres I have this same problem. Actually at a point I WORKED at a movie theatre and was paid to pick up the trash people leave behind. I've noticed a lot of people think it's the people who work there should be the ones picking up the trash because they get paid to do it. It's common though for people to do it. It's just that they are too lazy to pick up after themselves in reality and they feel that others should do it. If society would learn how to clean up after themselves in general our world would be a lot cleaner, let alone our movie theatre.

N Americans are so darn lazy like that!! Can you believ the Japanese do not have garbage cans on their beaches and yet everyone carries a plastic bag and picks up their own stuff and keeps it in the bag and they bring it homw!! That country is one of the cleanest I have seen! And they always pick up after themselves.. The Japanese have a word they live by- they don't mess with the "wa". Which means harmony of the people as a whole. The teens and society in general have so much respect for one another and they are a pretty happy and harmonious society. I wish our society could learn fomr them in some ways..

Same reason why people litter on the streets. Why do they do it? Because there's not garbage can out of reach. There are no little garbage cans in the theatre, and no one would walk out while the movie is on to throw that out. Or they leave it on the side after they are done...and they forget about it after the movie is over.

They are lazy and they think that it is the Ushers job.
It is stupid to leave your garbage when you can clearly see the trash cans that are placed by the door.

It happens because a lot of people are rude and lazy. It annoys me to no end when people at fast food restaurants leave their trash on tables as well. The damned trash can is right there. Use it!

Every once in a while I imagine a wrapper will fall out of someone's bag without their knowledge, I imagine. However, leaving a huge tub of popcorn or something is pretty obvious. Maybe you're right that they think it's the ushers' job.
