Is this the ozone hole that is right above the active volcano in the Antarctica?
Well, Since volcano's are a major reason why there is a depletion in the ozone, then it would depend on how active that volcano is.
By the way, it is not a hole. If there was a true hole, that part of the earth would be scorched. It is a section of the ozone that has been depleted and is not at thick as the rest of the planet.
I do not think the ozone has changed much at all.

Really depends on the amount of Carbon Dioxide, CFC, Nitrous Oxides, and other wastes we dump into the Ozone. The problem is that some of these pollutants bond with the Oxygen in the ozone (O3), which breaks up the three bonds that create the ozone. If these pollutants were in greater amounts, then the Ozone hole would get larger. No, the Ozone layer did not close up. It's some lie politicians make up to get votes. In fact, the Ozone is still expanding due to the wastes we put up into the sky. Erosion frees up carbon/nitrogen molecules which flows into the sky, and later the Ozone layer. Carbon and Nitrogen both bonds with the Oxygen molecules and breaks down the Ozone layer.

Your question could have two different meanings.
1) Is it true that Al Gore said that?
2) Al Gore did say that, but is it a true statement?
Either way, use of ozone damaging chemicals (such as Freon) has been drastically reduced, so it is at least possible that we are seeing a beneficial effect already.

The Ozone "hole" over north pole is re-building, and so is the one over the south pole gradually.
The use of ozone depleting chemicals did not make enough money for the western companies as emerging countries could produce them cheaper. So they have succesfully been mostly phased out.
Please remember ozone depletion is a completely unrelated man-made environmental problem to Climate change and greenhouse gases. Here the big global corps are still in denial as taking any action will affect their short-term profits, an the levels of greenhouse gasses still rising.

there has been some research done in Japan that shows a trend of the hole in the ozone over Antarctica closing sometime in the next 50 years or so. they said it was because we're using less CFC's, the chemicals that are in aerosol cans and styrofoam.

True! Since he invented the internet, he knows everything!
But seriously the ozone hole has ebbed and flowed for a long time.

Al Gore is a respected Economist so I trust is predictions, but he is a politician so he might have been trying to be politically correct and the damage might be worst than we think

This is a politically loaded question.
If you want to learn about global warming, simply use a good search engine (Yahoo or Google or even Dogpile) and type in your query.
