Yes they work to an extent. All rechargeable batteries will only charge so many times before they no longer hold a charge. However, these are still cheaper than buying alkaline batteries all the time. As far as brand goes, it really doesn't matter. What I would recommend is to look for batteries that are NiMH, Nickel Metal Hydride, versus NiCD, Nickel Cadmium. The NiMH do not have that "memory" problem that NiCD have and if you get the NiMH batteries with a higher mAH rating then they will last longer per charge. I would recommend that you look into the NiMH batteries that have a 2000mAH or higher and you should be happy with the results. You can find these batteries just about anywhere, Walmart, Target, Radio Shack, etc... In most places you'll find them in the camera department, just FYI... I hope that this helps and good luck!

I use Duracell also.

In general, I find that the AA batteries last almost as long as standard alkaline batteries before needing a recharge. These are idea in Digital Cameras, that would otherwise EAT BATTERIES. Yes, a portable CD player is a great application.

Get the charger and set of 4 batteries immediately. At some point later, pick up 4 more, so you always have the next set charged up and ready to go. (carried by STAPLES and other awesome retailers).

Keep in mind that the NiMH batteries should last about 10,000 recharge cycles. YIKES, that will save you a ton of money over the years.

I did own some BRAND X. One of them leaked, but not in my camera. Guess what... I CHUCKED them, and went and bought Duracell.

Yes, you could save money by using rechargeable batteries although I still keep a spare set and rotate it since I don't really know when the ones in use would need recharging. (You save even more when you charge the battery at work! Your boss has to agree of course). I use Duracell.

Yes they really work, although they tend to run out a little faster than regular non-rechargeable batteries. I recently bought the new NiMH batteries, and so far I'm very happy with their performance. I use them in my discman all the time.

There are three companies that have special techniques specific to making good rechargeable batteries.

Ansmann, MAHA and Sanyo.

If you go to their websites you will see pages of breathtakingly dull stuff about how they do what they do so well, but it comes down to the consistency of the electrolyte (the liquid in a battery that leaks) and the way they package them to dissipate heat.

There are TWO types of rechargeable batteries:
One type are rechargeable basically forever, but they run out of juice faster.
Another type you can recharge 25-40 times, and they last longer, but after that you're outa luck.

Go to RadioShack - they'll tell you which is which. Make sure you get a charger than can handle either type.

They suck. You need a better portable CD player or get into the future with an MP3 player.

no, they dont work, there are many things that will not run on rechargeable batteries. Not enoff juice in the batteries. They will work for awhile then get weaker and weaker as you recharge them.
