Depends on the man. If your man is into the arts, it might be romantic to go to the theater or a museum. Intimate dinners are also romantic... many of the things women find romantic are also seen as romantic to a man. Even some who wouldn't admit it.
In any case, if you take time to do something you know he's interested in, there's some romance in that. Your ideas are great, if you know those are things he likes. He might not find it romantic to have you working with him though, so you might ask about that.
Asking him is another good way to get ideas, too! There's no taboo against asking your man what he finds romantic. Find out and act on it! Good luck. :)

Romance can be found in all these things, if you put it there. My neighbor lady packs a little picnic when she and her husband go out fishing. Some cheese/crackers, wine, grapes, fruit slices, strawberries, then when he looks like he's getting tired of her catching all the fish they anchor in a nice little bay and have a romantic picnic. She doesn't do this every time they go so it doesn't become he expects and loses all the romance out of it. G-Luck.

Most men equate romance with sex.
Driving, building a tree house, home repairs, etc... are not usually considered romantic. But hey, if that's what floats your boat -- go for it!

if they're in love anything is romantic. i'd say a dinner and some music, or do some sports yu both like. The best thing for a man is to be interested in what he's into, and make him feel that you really enjoy it.

Romance is being able to spend quality time with your partner that inspires intimate moments, example, long walks on the beach just before the sun sets...dinner & dancing..can get you in a festive mood at least...candle-light dinner with drinks and her for desert.
