Kids are definitely more disrespectful nowadays. Like the old excuse goes though, "I did it because I could get away with it". What do people expect out of kids when their parents don't even know how to raise them. Parents nowadays are horrendous and don't know how to discipline children. Top it off with people who somehow have decided that spanking your child is a damn crime and its no wonder the kids think they can get away with it. I'm not for abusing children but these kids need to all be lined up single file and have themselves a fresh dose of smackings. Maybe that will knock some sense into them. Fear does indeed go a long way. I was no angel as a child but I knew if I did something real bad I would be on the receiving end of an *** whooping.

I agree with the first answer...mostly. Yeah, it's the fault of the parents for the most part, but nowadays TV basically raises children and teenagers. You could argue that it's the parents that let them watch the TV, but what happens when they're not home? At work in the summer? Teenagers always have access to TV wether it be in their own house or at a friend's, etc.

Besides, there is more pressure now than there ever was for teens to be rebellious and smoke, drink, and not listen to their parents. Sometimes parents can be too over-protective, and need to give their kids personal space - after all, hormones sometimes get the best of us. And as much as they like to think they know their own kids, there is a lot they don't understand. On the other hand, sometimes teens are the ones in the wrong. They can be stubborn even though they know better.

Teenagers are definately more disrespectful to adults and parents these days. It seems as if teenagers are getting more stupid with each generation. Teenagers seem to lack self-respect and the respect for others around them. They need a serious reality check pronto...before it is too late.

I don't think kids are anymore disrespectful of adults and parents than they have been in the past. I think whats happening is that some of the parents are too lenient when it comes to punishing their children. I'm not speaking for all people out there...it's just what I've observed.

Some teens are completely independant now and are given no discipline. It all depends which environment they grow up in as well... the world has changed a lot and thus how kids grow up has changed very, very much. Teenagers have it hard 'cause puberty already makes them a bit confused and all, and now there's all of this ridiculous media that makes it worse. But, there's always some good teens- you just have to look hard. And finally, it depends on the person's nature.

From one parent's point of view, yes most teenagers these days are more disrespectful. If you 're aware that you are one ot them, good for you, do make a change. Hate to admit though sometimes parents don't earn their respect. It's a two way street.

"Disrespectful' is too soft a word to describe the attitude of teenagers towards adults and their parents. The word should be HOSTILE, yes they have become hostile to some extent, as they have forgotten the meaning of the word " respect ".Even school do not teach that tooooo

Yes they are. But I think it's partly because their parents are afraid to give them a good old fashioned butt kicking. If you breathe on your child the wrong way these days, some nosey neighbor is calling CPS or whatever. I'm 27 yrs. old, and I STILL to this day would not disrepect my parents for fear of getting the taste slapped out of my mouth!

They ARE!!!

I was walking home last night and a group of kids aged between 6-12 were hurling abuse at an Indian guy and then they called me "Love"!!!! I was sssooooo insulted!

Kids have no respect for anyone or anything and I blame the parents (Sorry parents, but swearing in front of your kids doesn't really help teach them manners or respect)

I'm not saying all parents are to blame........peer pressure, the media etc all play a part but doesn't it just pee you off????

I'm defiantly not having any kids..........a puppy is just fine!!!

Absolutely. Keep in mind that kids today do not have God in their lives as they did in previous generations, so their sense of morality is on the decline. Throw in the horrific images in the media (music, TV, radio, and video), and what do you expect? Lastly, parents of today, for the most part, stink. They are more concerned with making money than they are in spending time with their kids.

Yes, that appears to be the case. However most parents I know (that are of my generation) haven't taught their kids to be respectful and polite as my parents (and others of their generation) did. Courtesy never goes out of style, and today's parents that aren't instilling manners and courtesy in their children are doing them a disservice...especially in the long run.
