I pulled up last minute deals from your area, and you have a lot of options for under $700 pp, $500 pp is pushing it a bit, if you're set on that amt and can't go more keep watching Cancun or (not in the caribbean but another great option) Puerto Vallarta, just make sure you go for all-inclusive, that way you won't have food or drink expenses to worry about. Or keep watching the dominican republic. My suggestion is call a travel agent and ask if they have an deals for the week you are going (if you're flexible a bit it helps) they may have square deals and they are awesome to get, you don't know the hotel til you're on the plane, but your guaranteed a certain type of hotel. Don't let the agent try to fool you into thinking you can't get anything for less than $1000's pp- it's just not true! my friend and I have never spent over $750 pp to go to mx or the caribbean.

We just got back from Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. It was a very relaxing vacation. Stayed at an all inclusive resort and it only cost $2,400 for 7 nights including airfare for two people. We flew out or Portland, Oregon. I don't recommend going to any where in the Caribbean now as it is hurrican season. For the money it was a great vacation.

Look at the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. If you shop around you can get all inclusive deals (lodging, food and drinks) at a really nice ocean side hotel for cheap. A buddy of mine from New York goes to Sosua all the time. He stays at a beautiful resort called Sosua by the Bay and pays somewhere around $50 a day for everything. There are lots of resorts on the North Coast. Better prices if you just call and book yourself. Speaking a little Spanish helps. Have fun.

The two inexpensive places in the Caribbean are Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

i highly recommend PUERTO RICO, and it's sister island CULEBRA, overall it is relatively inexpensive to travel to and to stay there, once you leave the SAN JUAN area. i recommend renting a car for your entire trip and staying in the rain forest @ VILLA SEVILLA, then taking day trips to CULEBRA, VIEQUES,OSJ, AND ISLA VERDE in SAN JUAN.if traveling from the US you will not need a passport.
