In the NYPD, how do you get assigned to a certain area? Do you request an area? What's the deal.?

it's like the service they put you where you are needed unless your old man in the police dept

Unless your hook's a chief you'll pick like everyone else. In the academy your "dream sheet" will allow you to pick which borough you wish to go to. You will list in order of preference your top 2 patrol boroughs, top 2 transit boroughs, and top 2 housing boroughs. Be very lucky if you actually get what you picked. If all else fails you'll wind up in the 67, 70, 71, 73, 75 like everyeone else. And if you do get that don't be bummed out... those precincts have the BEST cops and you'll learn much quicker that those going to MTS to arrest old ladies shoplifiting. Brooklyn South is the best by the way. Just get good boots and warm clothes for the winter becuase you'll definetly be on foot for at least 6 months. Good luck.

when you start, they assign you where they want you. Latter you can request transfers, promotions and the such. but in general they can still send you where they want you

i think it's up to them where they are going to book you, you usually start with street watching first, then with promotion you move on to different areas but i dont think they'll let you make that choice.
