Quran came down thru 20 years of Muhammad life.
some of those verses came down during staying on Medinna. and the other during staying on Mecca. so at the end Angel Gibriel review the Quran with Muhammad and organized and combined the verses in the way you see it today.
the opening book has to be in the front for example.
how do we identify them. on top of each chapter it tells which verses came down on Al-Madina. and which verses camed down on Macca.

The answer by "wantsme32458, is simple and clear.
I would like to add, that the Mekkah verses were concentrating on the introduction of Islam and it's ethics of equality and justice, while the Medina verses laid down the rules that governs the social, economical and political rules in Islam
Both the verses are integrated with each other as our friend has explained.

Salam,
There's two opinions:
1) Madinan refers to the surahs or Ayahs that were revealed in Medinah, and Makkan refers to the ones revealed in Makkah.
But this veiw is weaker than the second because some surahs are not like this eg. Surah nisa is a midinan surah yet was revealed in makkah
2) Makkan surahs refer to the surahs revealed before hijrah (migration). And madinan refers to Ayahs revealed after hijrah. This is the more correct veiw.
How you identify them?
Makkah surahs:
~Have the word ÙÙÙÙÙا in it ("kalla")
~Have a Ayah about Sajdah in it
~Speaks about the incident of Adam (as) and Iblis (except surah baqarah)
Madinan Surahs:
~Gives permission for Jihad and it's injunctions
~Talks about hypocrites; "munaafiqs"
Besides this, it should already be written in the Quran next to the headings. Hope that helps! :o))

I can very easily distinguish between them. median verses are way longer, more related to day-to-day life, less tolerant, and the language structure is much weaker (not poetic anymore).

Ooooooooooohhh-they thought no one knew about that. I wonder what kind of answer you will get. Get ready for some major bull.
Okay -here is a clue.
When they talk to unbelievers-they quote form one set. When they talk to fanatics -they use the other????? Why???
