My wedding is in 6 weeks and my groom wants the color black in it. Oh, this is not a traditional wedding so to speak.

Black used to be taboo at weddings, but now black is lending elegance to especially evening weddings. Still, you need to balance its use so it doesn't look like a funeral. Since you only have six weeks, you probably already have dresses for your bridesmaids. If not, black cocktail dresses or tea dresses are nice, but make sure mothers wear the other color and the accents on the bridesmaids are a different color.

If it is a day wedding, black will definately need to be a subtle accent rather than a major color. Talk to your florist to see if there is some black accent that she can weave into the floral arrangements. You can tie favors with ribbon of you main color and black ribbon. You may be able to talk with the baker to work in a subtle black accent on the cake like a delicate lace design or tiny dots.

If it is an evening wedding, you have more opportunities to use it since it is an evening color. You can have your bridesmaids wear black accents like hairpieces, fabric flowers or sash on dresses, and shoes. Black tablecloths with white flowers can be very dramatic. Think black and white ball. You can find a black bound scrapbook/blank journal to use as a guestbook. You can decorate it to be fancy. If you are considering potted flowers, you can use black pots. There are no real black flowers, so you will have to go with silk flowers for real black. For the cake, you can go for a more dramatic use of black. Invitations can have a black trim. If you are doing the garter toss, you can get a black garter.

You can also decorate using black chinese paper lanterns and black feathers. You can create cool black mascarade masques and scribe your names and wedding date on them in silver marker.

If you do not want black, but want to introduce black as a theme. You can go more using "black pearls" which are more greenish black, black tulips which are deep purple black, black orchids which have black veins and yellow-green. You can serve black russian drinks.

There are tons of possibilities. Let me know if you are interested in more ideas.

I would use ribbon and decor. I don't know exactly how non-traditional this wedding is. Of course if there's a tux it can be black. Any groomsmen? Their shirts and suits/tuxes can be black. Flowers? The holder and ribbon decor around the bouquet can be black, especially if the flowers are white or brightly colored - it'll create a very dramatic backdrop for them.

Unity candle? The tapers can be black. If people bulk at this use this symbolism. Each candle represents one of you. Alone you shine what light you can, but one person can only create so much light in a world that is covered in darkness. Together you are bright and stand strong. It is a flame that cannot be extinguished on a pillar of love, pure and white, that cannot be broken.

You might consider using a wide black ribbon around the boddess of your dress. It is very dramatic and really helps define your femine shape. You can also attach a strip of black ribbon along the edge of your veil if you have one.

Alright. I'm out of ideas.

First of all, congratulations on your upcoming wedding. You are entering an exciting and stressful time- as it seems you are finding out.

Black is everywhere and let's face it- black is the most flattering color on people- so that's what people wear. Almost all bridesmaid gowns are available in black- again the flattering issue as you are dealing with different women and different bodies. Particularly for black-tie weddings black is the bridesmaid dress color. You can also incorporate black ribbons to accent your glassware, candles etc. at the reception.

Again congratulations, and good luck.

I am going to have my bridesmaids wear simple strapless black dresses with a pastel pink ribbon that ties around the waist and goes along the back of the dress to the floor. You could use whatever your main color is for accent ribbon on black dresses. I also will have pastel pink, black, and silver ribbons as decoration. I also have been thinking about having black table cloths with a sheer pink and/or silver fabric over them. I think black incorporated with colors in a wedding is very elegant. Good luck!

Well one thing you could do is have an evening wedding - maybe have a black tie event. Black in the evening definitely denotes something on the formal side so it would not be way out there for the bridesmaids to have on a black dress. Ultimately, it's your wedding. I would not suggest black flowers or nails or anything like that. Maybe for the tables you could have white cloths with black overlay (or vice versa). Black tuxedos for the guys, maybe use black ribbon around the bouquets. There are options.

I am using these exact colors! I am putting pink in: Bridesmaids bouquets Ribbon around the cake layers Ribbon/bows on wedding favors Pink napkins to go with my cake Pink rose petals for flower girl Pink rose petals surrounding my wedding cake Flower girl dress (with white) Pink ties for groomsmen Pink corsage/boutonniere flowers Centerpiece flowers (with white) Punch for the cake Putting black in: Chair sash Grooms cake napkins Bridesmaids dresses Grooms/men tux Favor boxes Ribbon tied around invitations White: My bouquet My dress Grooms shirt/tie/vest Table cloths centerpiece flowers (with pink) Candles Invitations (with black ribbon) These are just some of my things! I think the colors look wonderful. I also thought maybe just black and white, and then realized that there wasn't a color to make anything pop or elegant besides black. I am also having a summer evening wedding and wanted to make sure to incorporate some type of color from the outdoors and pull it in. If I think of other things I will come back and add them to my answer. Have a lovely wedding!

Use it on the party favours. You can make/buy potpurri sachets tied with a black ribbon on it. Or on red and on black..it will be beautiful.
Use black on the centerpieces as well. You can tie black ribbbons around black candles, or use black stones at the bottom of clear vases.
There are also very tasteful invitations that are black and white, they are elegant and very fancy.
Also, you can incorporate it on your wedding cake. I've seen some very pretty ones with black ribbons and even polk-a-dots.
Black goes with everything and you can combine it with another color (such as red) so it won't look too gothic.
Good luck
Congrats and good luck!

black is a elegant color but in a wedding dont use it as your main colors the tuxs could be black and if it is a evening wedding black is appropriate my daughter got married around christmas time it was beautiful of course she had a white wedding gown and her flowers were red roses i think either a deep red or a purple would be beautiful with the black it will be beautiful just compromise and it will work out great and both of you will be happy

I am using black as an accent in my wedding. The bridesmaids dresses have black trim and are dark gray. The ribbon on the cake is also going to be black. I am using bright flowers so they pop against the gray and black.

Congrats on your wedding!

My colors are black and white (only). I havent had any problems. My bridesmaid's dresses are black and of course the tuxes are black. My bridesmaid's bouquets will have black ribbon around the stems with a sheer white ribbon cris-crossed over it. Our flowers are all white (with black ribbon) and on the brides cake there will be a few tiny black flowers. I also have some black candle holders. We have alternating tablecloths and plates, that are black and white. Hope that helps.
