This answer is based on a British infantry battalion.
In a British rifle squad (known as a section) there are 8 men. Three sections of 8 men make up a rifle platoon plus the Platoon commander, Platoon sergeant & a Light aid detachment (medic, signaller, 2 man light mortar team) which totals 30 men.
There are 3 rifle platoons in a rifle company plus a headquarters platoon of medics, signallers, cooks, clerks, drivers & the company sergeant major, company commander & company second-in-command, so around 120-130 men.
Several rifle companies make up a battalion (usually at least 3 but could be more depending on the battalions role). Together with these there is a Headquarters company & a fire support company. The fire support company has a recce platoon, mortar platoon, anti-tank platoon & also usually a machine gun platoon & an assault pioneer platoon. These add up to a battalion of about 600 men.
Battalions are then grouped together into Brigades with an operational role. An armoured brigade, for example will have several armoured infantry battalions together with other combat arms & support. There could be up to 3000 men in a Brigade.
Several Brigades make up a Division, totally between 6000 & 10,000 men & women.

in the US Army...
A squad is as small as 4 Soldiers in a Tank unit (the smallest I know of)and as large as 12+ in a MP or light infantry unit (the biggest I know of).
A platoon is as small as 16 in a tank unit to 40-50
Company has from 60-300
Battalion has from 240 to 1000
Then comes Brigade or Regiment then Division, Corps, and Army.
The key to this is that there are 3 or 4 of the next smaller unit in the next higher unit + a head quarters and support.
The HQ and Support in a platoon would be about 3 or 4 guys where there could be 1000 at the Division level.
