I have old formica kitchen cabinets that are pale yellow. I would like to paint my walls one color; the soffit on top and a pantry that comes out from the back wall another. I can't seem to come up with anything but 2 different shades of blue. What other colors would go with pale yellow?

depending on whether you want a warm look or a cool one, warm-peach, cool-pale green, accent either with white

Instead of fighting with the yellow, and believe me I've been there, try to incorporate it into a color scheme you'd like. Why not paint the upper portion of the walls in a deep golden color and the bottom in a pistachio or sage green then find a border paper emulating the rich reds, golds and blues of mexican tile for a chair rail effect and behind your countertops. You could use a rich cinnamon color for the soffit and pantry to make the room really pop. There are many inexpensive local sources for bowls and crockery in all the bright colors so popular this year that could be used to accent your kitchen. Hang red chili ristras and plates with these colors on the wall. The use of bright rich color will draw the formica color in and make it appear darker. If these don't happen to be colors you prefer, use the same concept with some you'd enjoy. Grab a handfull of various color chips you love the color of and lay them out oon the countertop in various color combinations until you find what you like. Color does not have to be drab, just something that compliments the rest of your home and something you'd enjoy looking at on a daily basis. Have fun and good luck!

A great color with pale yellow is dove grey. If your budget allows, you can replace your fridge, oven, sink, stove top, etc. with stainless steel/silver. Another trick is to paint the walls, etc. the same color as the cabinets. Then choose a bright contrasting color such as poppy red or electric lime green for towels, tablecloths, etc. Right now,in Target stores you can find kitchen accessories by designer Issac Mizrahi. He uses bold graphics of flowers. I'd paint everything the same color of pale yellow and add his Daisy dishes and linens. Have fun.

As odd as it sounds, lavender will go well with pale yellow. So will darker shades of purple. (like in pansies).

I would avoid blue in a kitchen, unless you want to suppress appetite. Psychologically, the color blue around food tends to decrease appetite. (Which is where the term "blue plate special" came from - people ate less when served from blue plates.)

greens ( NOT forrest grn Yuk!) Here's something that will help you, go to www.hgtv.com and click on the dream house (2006) or any of the later dream house models, when you see the colors you like, put your cursor on it and the actual paint color and brand will come up! Good Luck! (color is sooooooo tricky until u get it up on your walls, so this site helped me to know what really looks good together because these homes are done by really well paid & trained professionals!)

you could go pastel colours, get a paint chart and hold the colours up to the yellow and see what looks good. I think pale minty green and pink would look cute, with some white in there, think ice-cream colours.
