THE BEST WAY TO FIND OUT IS TO PUT THEM BOTH INSIDE A PILLOWCASE AND SEE WHO COMES OUT THE WINNER.

Cat by far for me but it's a matter of personal preference. I have had both - even used to be a breeder of show dogs, etc. I have switched to cats (Maine Coon), a breed that is large, loving, and playful. I realized that there are way too many unwanted and euthanized dogs and cats and that there was no reason to be breeding more, just to show them or keep bloodlines "pure". I wish, actually, that the whole thing would be stopped. I know people who have been breeding dogs for more than 25 years - and for what? Money. Yes they are good people who make sure dogs are healthy and bloodlines don't cross and all of that. I still think going down to the local human society and adopting an animal is a better use of time and resources. Let's take care of what we have and quit making more.

Definitely a dog!!!!1. If you'd die in the morning ( sorry for beeing so cruel, but read first, it's true!!!) ok if you'd die and there's nobody around a dog is going to starve and will die with you. But a cat will not starve, a cat will eat you!!!!!
2. A dog is a much better friend then a cat!
3. If you give a dog a kick up his hole( not that you supposed to do that!!!) he'll still come back to you but a cat won't!
4. A cat is a very selfish animal, but a dog loves the bones of you and he even loves the owner more than he loves himself!

Cats I think, although I have cats and dogs. If you have cats you have to be prepared for the fact that one of them will be the boss of the house. My cats are affectionate but only when it suits them, that suits me though because who wants a soppy cat following them around and wanting a cuddle all the time. Cats are independent and definitely more intelligent than dogs. Dogs are very needy although I love my dogs, I think anyone who thinks that dogs are better than cats may be a bit insecure and need the attention a dog gives.
Both cats and dogs have advantages and disadvantages, either way they're both better than people.

Cats deffinately.

Cats:

1. Don't smell
2. Aren't greasy after patting
3. Are affectionate but can spend time alone.
4. Are independant.
5. Don't need taken for walks.
6. Can be left with someone only visiting once a day to feed them when you go on holiday, whereas a dog needs an expensive kennel.
7. Don't jump on you/sniff you
8. Are basically able to cope on their own pretty well therefore are good if you're not looking for much commitment or if you're a busy person.

I have two dogs and two cats so I can tell you there are advantages to both. A lot of people I talk to seem to go for one or the other.

Dogs
1. they run to greet you
2. they are very affectionate all the time
3. A dog is incentive to go for walks and get exercise (some would say this is a disadvantage) , you tend to meet people when u walk a dog.
4. Dogs tend to smell whereas cats don't
5. A dog will bark to keep out strangers but tend to be more work than cats i think.

Cats
1. Get a litter tray put them in it the minute they come in your door and they will always go in that as long as you clean it every day. (cats are much cleaner than dogs).
2. Cats like to be outside more than dogs and are more independant, if you have two you can go away for the day and they will play together happily when young, when older they will be outside investigating.
3. Cats like quiet time, to relax and chill beside you, proba\bly better around older people rather than young kids.
4. You need to put a bell on your cat or she will bring you presants of dead birds (been there). I got one last week without a head from our ferral one, its like she said to herself ...'Hmmm! will I give the humans this or will I eat it, looks so nice, oh! I better give it...I guess they won't miss the head'

Did you know surveys have proved animals prolongue your life:), whatever you get it will add to your life.

If you have a lot of time love and devotion to give, a dog will be more dependant on you. They will be more of a friend. A cat is more independant and don`t tie you down as much. They will be your friend when it suits them. Vet fees have to be taken into consideration and if you have a dog a commitment to walking them 2/3 times a day. If you work full time make it a cat.Adog would get lonely.

Depends what you are looking for in a pet. Dogs are more loyal and loving, more people orientated. They can be a true companion. But on the flip side, dogs are messy, require attention and training, bathing, grooming and walking, can be loud and destructive. Cats are usually more aloof and may or may not allow you to be a part of their existence (my cat let's me stay around because I know how to open doors and fill the food dish) but are self cleaning, quite and less destructive., and do well on their own for long hours if you are not home. I have several of each, and wouldn't trade them for the world. But you need to examine your own living situation and what you are looking for in a pet and then decide accordingly.
