that is so strange and annoying. If you give them your full attention, they do not say anything more, just keep calling your name. I do not encounter this with the majority of them, but with plenty enough to be curious. Anyone know why?

Think about why they are ghosts in the first place?
Not because they are damned by anyone but themselves and their unwillingness to let go of their own fear/anger/pain or misery. Sometimes, (rarely) there are ones that actually like the power of creating fear.
To break through an influence the physical in terms of EVP, movement, cold spots and ultimately manifestations, their emotional state must be so focused and so charged. Few spirits have the experience or anger/emotion to create such dynamics.
Attention is the no 1 goal of most spirits. That is probably why you get your name.

From my experience, spirits a lot of times will call you out because they watch and they can sense us as well, wanting to make connection trying to reach you but perhaps you are not powerful enough to talk. Whip out a recorder next time and ask questions perhaps you will get a response... But never ask a spirit to show itself...

It could be a residual haunt. That may be the only thing they can say. It just keeps repeating the same action over and over without any change in the pattern.

That is a interesting question because it has happened to me before. I remembered though in the Book of Samuel or somewhere around there that that happened to Samuel and Eli told him that the next time it happened to say, "Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth." Say that next time and if it is the Lord or a loved one, you will know (because when you ask them if Jesus Christ came in the flesh and is the Son of God, if they are from Heaven, they will say yes but if they say no tell them to "leave in the name of Jesus Christ" and they will leave)

Because they have no manners! Calling someone by their name means you want their attention, the least they could do is say something,anything, else!

Actually, they say far more than just calling your name, they really go on and on --- but the twilight zone FILTER kicks in after they call your name and deletes everything they say after. (i used to have that job until i lost it by failing to pay the union dues).

I believe they just want you to know that they are there, that's why they are trying to get your attention.
