I have always been very interested in the paranormal, particularly in ghosts. However despite going to many reportedly haunted and historic places as well as lost of ordinary houses and shops said to be haunted, I have seen and felt nothing. How can I encourage an experience of some kind?

I want to point out that I don’t wish to summon the dead or call up a demon! I am Irish and have been brought up to believe that the “other world” is just there literally on top of and inside our own. All my family and friends have had at least one experience (ghost, banshee, premonitions, fairies, and spirits of dead relatives come to give messages) which they usually discuss in completely matter of fact ways! What am I doing wrong?

You are lucky u didn't experience that paranormal encounter. It can be that after such an encounter (especially the one when you are trying to make contact to dead people) u'll have to suffer, and consequences may be dire. When trying to contact other paranormal beings u may come upon a demon, the result being that ur life might go totally wrong: deteriorating of relationships with friends, relatives etc, dying of relatives and the people u love, some unfortunate events during which u might become crippled etc. You'll be better off just living your life and enjoying it !

I have advice. I have had many ghost encounters. Right now my house is haunted. I dont think you are really missing out on anything. Its not all fun and games like what people make it out to be. And no, drugs are NOT the answer. I hate jerks like that so dont listen to that dude. If you want some advice, ghost come out in the early mornings around 12-3 and then they hide from us...they can do that you know. I know this awsome TV show you should watch... it's called Ghost Hunters and its on every Wednesday night at nine oclock on the SciFi channel. And also they have a site and its www.TAPS.com or org I cant remember and also try this site www.ghosts.org. it has some really freaky strories. Being able to "see" these phenomenon varies from person to person.... some are highly sensitive, and others are for all intents and purposes, blind.
You are a rarity... someone who is relatively naturally "blind" to psychic phenomenon, who is yet open to believing that these things are percievable. Most "blind" are closed to the idea... as if someone physically blind would be closed to the idea that other people with eyes can see through them. Actually, physically blind from birth people have eyeballs, and therefore are more inclined to believe others that those eyes have a purpose.... but there are no outward "eyes" for psychic perception.
If you have any ability at all, it's one of those "the harder you try, the less chance you have of success" situations. Relax, don't actively look, and it may happen for you someday.

ghosts do not exist! the idea of ghosts is just another belief system like religion. it is an attempt to try to provide some respite from the certain knowledge of eternal oblivion that faces us all when we die. anybody who claims to have had encounters with ghosts or other paranormal experiences is either lying or deluded. consciousness (or a human soul) is an implicit property of a living person's brain that ceases to exist beyond the point of brain death.

go in those places again around 12-3 in the morning and call them out say things " if there are any ghosts here give me a sign" and then stay completely still and wait for something OR hold a seance at one of these places and call forth the spirit into either yours or one of your friend's body and it'll use them to talk.
ps. i would be freaked out if i saw a ghost.

Ghosts don't exist my dear you're wasting your time, you might want to look for another hobby or better yet have faith in the Trinity of the God Head and the Lord will definitely visit you one day.

Make sure you BELIEVE in such things and you'll probably start to encounter such stuff. If you don't believe and think its all a load of rubbish you won't see anything.
I don't think its a question of 'seeing is believing', I think its the other way 'round: you will see and experience what you believe in.

In my experience some people are more prone to these 'feelings' than others...maybe you are not one of them!
